Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Oct 28 at 1753, no signal yet from
LRA36 as I break for lunch, but it`s on by 1821; 1900 song ``Argentina
Blanco``, surely not implying that Arg. be masculine? 1905 ID, contact
info, 1913 about LRA36. It`s S6/S7 into Bs. As. remote, sufficient.
Still going at 2117. And 2200 also via Mendoza, while Bs As is totally
blocked intermittently by wideband QRM bursts, on H2Ofall seemingly
emanating from about 7.1 MHz, i.e. a nearby ham. Still on at 2228.
2257 about ham radio: I think she says the ham station at the base
uses the same rhombic antenna as LRA36, worked 70 countries including
FT8 mode. 2301 contact info including huge whatsapp number uttered
once. 2302 outro ham segment with Morse code. Song and 2305 long Morse
code starting with LRA36 ID. 2306 canned *sign-on*, ``a partir de este
momento,`` multilingual RNASG IDs, and scripted recitation, ``El valor
del miedo``. 2311 re-starting a new edition of `Uniendo Voces`, but I
bet they chop off long before another 5 hours have passed. Weather
conditions, but slurred and I can`t understand the temp. 54th
anniversary of Base Marambio is coming up. 2340 still going (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non?]. 11499.978, Oct 28 at 1616, UTwente synchs on a
signal here, which must be Sound of Hope or CNR1 jamming (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 5025, Sat Oct 28 at 0643, R. Rebelde is gone again;
something`s always wrong at RadioCuba.

5010, WRMI is on, but often not this late: per grid it`s after 0400
only on Sat & Sun with TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non?]. 11760, Sat Oct 28 at 1534, no signal from RHC, but
pops on at *1535 in Spanish. Should be // 15140 where there is
something weak but unseems the same. Aoki & EiBi show nothing else on
15140 except: 16-17 RFA Uighur via Tinian and CNR1 jamming.

We should keep in mind that 15140 = 2 x 7570 whenever that WRMI be on
but it hardly ever harmonicizes. Hmmm, skedgrid shows WRMI-11 on 7570
until 1500 but Saturdays until 1600 with TOMBS. 7570 itself unchecked
now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Oct 28 at 2124, no signal from R. Cairo into
UTwente, nor just before 2200 but a tone presumably BBC warming up to
be unimpeded. Something`s amiss at Abis.

HFCC B23 shows 9440 continuing for another season in English at
2115-2245, however imaginary that may often be - and the others look
familiar too:
https://new.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=B23&broadc=ERU
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 11655, Oct 28 at 1533, S Asian talk, S7/S9, listed as NHK in
Hindi from Yamata until 1550 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11545, Oct 28 at 1531, weak talk, stronger than
only other carriers below 11600, which are 11530 and 11575. EiBi has
nothing on 11545, but Aoki shows Dengê Gel until 1600 via Uzbekistan.
I haven`t tried for this much lately, due to jumparounds vs Recep the
Turkish jammer, often hard to tell which if not on same frequency.

11530, Oct 28 at same time 1531, JBA carrier. EiBi shows this as Dengê
Gel rather than 11545. One or the other likely to be jammer right now
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KUWAIT. 11575.000, Oct 28 at 1617, something exactly on-frequency
at UTwente, listed as R. Ashna, USAGM service for Afghanistan (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SWAZILAND. 11879.96 approx., Sat Oct 28 at 1537, off-frequency talk
at S4/S5 vs local noise level S7/S8. TWR in Somali only on weekends
extended 1530-1545. Likely longpath (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Oct 28 at 2158, VOT is not off the air unlike
yesterday, IS running, VG S9+50 into UTwente and good modulation too.
After news, 2212 choral anthem, national? but cut short for promo at
2213 about ``Happy 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic`` and
`The Captain`s Log`, told in first person as if announcer himself
wrote it, about how wonderful a city is İstanbul. 2220 multi-lingual
ID filler reel. 2222 song -- these musical breaks are never identified
and I don`t always mention them. 2227 `Gripping Piles` repeat on the
gig economy. 2230 another Happy-100th promo. 2235 always-by-your-side
promo. 2239 `Geomarked [sic] Products` on lace from Sparta? 2242
with-you-every-hour promo. 2250 Happy-100th again. 2251 s/off. 2252 IS
playing for a decent interval until off at 2255.6* (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U A E. 12095, Oct 28 at 1540, no signal yet, but from Oct 29 with
B23, Encompass will transmit the WRN Russian service via Dhabayya at
1500-1700, including Prague, own programs including Panorama DX
program Sats at 1530; 1600 Japan, 1630 Slovakia, as Panorama reported
last week via Alex Miatlikov from Ukraine to the WOR iog. This is a
busy channel, pioneered by BBC which still partly uses it via various
sites, but also FEBC, with an A23 gap 1400/1800 sometimes occupied by
R. Delta Int`l, Netherlands (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 28 at
0514-0531 on the NRD-545 with E/W longwire: this time I laboriously
punch each of almost all 9/kHz channels minus one in USB. I started
downwards from 855, then upwards from there but here put in order:
603, 612, 621, 639, *684, 702, 711, 747-2, 774-2, 801-2, 837, *855-2;
864, 882, 891, 936-2, 963, 999, 1017, 1044, 1098, 1107-2, 1125,
1152-2, 1296, 1305-2, 1314, 1413, 1422. *strongest, likely both Spain
and many of the others. -2 = at least two carriers beating.

Above 1422, I hit only two anomalies, off-frequency approx. 1467.3 and
1565.13. Mwoffsets has Iran on 1467.39, but nothing that far below
1566. These could be local receiver birdies; or spurs from US
station(s). If matching from one station it would be exactly halfway
between them: 1516.215 = very unlikely as nothing there. Does anyone
else get carriers on those? Could also be Latin American variants
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs

** ARGENTINA [non]. 9955, Fri Oct 27 at 1457-1459.5, multilingual RAE
IDs repeating over and over, filling out the French relay via WRMI
sked M-F at 1430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri Oct 27 at 2200, token English from SNR for last
time until March 25 (?) at this hour and frequency: from Oct 30 will
be at 2300 on 9690 for us. Feature to follow the news today about some
festival. Altho metering S9+10/20 direct, lots of fading and noise
make it suboptimal for further escuching. 15520 even worse but still
mejor than 17715 or 11670 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Oct 27 at 2200 and several later chex both
direct and via UTwente: no signal in English to us, nor on possible
mistaken 9875. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser,

** U S A. 7490 -73 Hz = 7489.927, UT Sat Oct 28 at 0000, WBCQ with
`AAAWWW`, S9+10/30 into Maryland SDR, whole hour or at least start,
spotchex and ending are all about AM Radio, how great it is and
whether it has a future; including ``fancy AM`` = SW. 0010 had to play
some related? music which came over rather distorted. Also on 5130+
pre-empting T****, but still something else on 6160-, and no signal on
3265+. Major news from elsewhere in Maine, was it mentioned? Anyhow we
learnt that the rather small city of Lewiston is nevertheless second
only to Portland in size. Places like Augusta, Bangor, Kennebunkport
are even smaller. So I`m curious how Monticello ranx by population in
Maine? Convenient Maine Demographics website has an exhaustive
ranking: Monticello is #326 with a pop. of only 733. Does that include
A&A who are in Florida much of the time like now? As usual runs over
at least a minute into Hal Turner time on 7490 by 0101, but I notice
that did not happen on 5130+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 27 at
0332-0340 UT on the R75 with E/W loop: 531, 576, 612*, 684*, 711, 774,
855, 891, 909, 999, 1044, 1098-2, 1107-3, 1125, 1305-2, 1413, 1449,
1611 kHz. *strongest; -3 more than two carriers beating.

Per mwlist, nothing significant in Europe on 1449, but 200 kW from
Jeddah, Sa`udi Arabia; or less likely 400 kW from Iran (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 24546-24650, Oct 27 at 1513, CODAR swirshing, which?
Maybe eventually would fire Morse IDs. I`m bandscanning 22-27 MHz, and
find nothing more interesting than this below 24990 - no CW utes or
phones anywhere, no broadcast harmonix tho MUF is 28+ MHz with CB
crammed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 26585, Oct 27 at 1515, Spanish 2-way atop in pileup of
AM hets, just like in proper CB. Nothing else below 26965. Above CB,
USB Spanish on 27505, 27655, nothing higher (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 26 at 0225 UT,
on the E/W longwire into NRD-545: Tnx to Canadians Richard Langley and
Peter Laws for leading me to the manual instruxions on 9/10 kHz but it
is too complicated to change its tuning steps, unlike simply on the
R75, so this is not a thorough bandscan, rather picking several likely
frequencies to punch individually 1 kHz below in USB to hear a 1 kHz
het = carrier; not in the order tuned over the next few minutes:

531-2, 576-2, 595**, 621, 639-2, 684, 711-NOT, 774, 801, 855-2, 882,
891, 999, 1107-2, 1305-2, 1422, 1539. Likely mostly Algeria, Spain.

**595 rather than 594 strongly implies the off-frequency SNRT Oujda,
MOROCCO, 50 kW per mwlist, altho supposedly off air at 01-04.

Later at 0320-0328 UT Oct 26 on the R75 with E/W Wellbrook loop: 531,
549*, 576-2, 639, 657, 684*, 693, 702, 711-NOT, 738, 747, 774-2, 837,
855*, 882, 891, 963!=3 kHz from 960 local, 999, 1026, 1044, 1089,
1107-3, 1116, 1125, 1296, 1413, 1476, 1512; 1710=TIS or pirate?
*strongest. -3 = more than 2 carriers beating.

963! most likely would be 100 kW from Tunisia per mwlist. There are
also 50 kW or more on Cyprus, Iran, Sudan, Mozambique; nothing
significant in Europe. DXers in the Atlantic Northeast were getting
plenty of TA modulation on MW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2214)
