Glenn Hauser logs June 13, 2024  View Printable Version
Friday, June 14 2024

Logs
** OKLAHOMA. More about 50/50 kW from Tulsa on 1170: ``Following up on
this thread, they announced a format change on June 26. KTSB will
cease to exist after that; the new station will be KOTV AM. They
haven`t announced the new format, but I suspect more right wing talk.
I actually have enjoyed local sports for 6 hours a day here; I'll
switch to KTBZ 1430 for my somewhat-local sports fix. 73 Chris KC5IIE
Krug, Tulsa, OK`` (via Glenn Hauser, Enid, WORLD OF RADIO 2247)

** TURKEY. Re a VOT segment title, Bill Tilford replies: ``Actually, I
think the English show is `Türkiye's Geomarked Products`. I have been
doing a little reading and Türkiye has some place-of-origin
authenticity procedures not that unlike some cheeses in France, for
example`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2246 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: less choice to hear World of Radio on WRMI:
9395, 2330, only, start, lightning in area, close down, 2359, June 11
UTC 2024 [Tue]
9395, World of Radio not heard ?? looks like two frequencies are used
at 0130, one I can hear is now canceled, 0159, June 13 UTC 2024 [Thu]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

NOT confirmed UT Thursday June 13 at 0145 the 0130 on WRMI 9395: music
playing. Sked now shows a new 15-minute program has been stripped in
at 0130, so the next quarter hour becomes music fill, not even a
semi-WOR.

NOT confirmed UT Thursday June 13 at 0145 the 0130 on WRMI 5010, since
that is OFF the air, no signal into Bonaire or Georgia SDRs. WOR
presumably still on sked there.

Confirmed Thursday June 13 at 1646 the 1630 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.002, S7/S9 but noisy into UTwente. 1700 is nominal start of other
frequency 3975: it`s already on at 1657 but musical prélude.

** U S A. Re WEWN missing from 15610 & 12050, Glenn Tapley never
replied to my inquiry, but to Tony Pavick on June 13: ```I contacted
Glenn Tapley at WEWN/EWTN and received this reply: ``We have some
major equipment issues. English needed a new tube for the Continental
transmitter. It took 8 months to have one made and delivered. It
failed, so back to square one. The transmitter carrying Spanish
decided to fail. Parts are ordered and hopefully we can be back on
soon.`` Tony Pavick, Hope BC Canada``` (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO

Glenn Hauser logs June 11-12, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, June 13 2024

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. 28262 CW, June 12 at 2204, long dash and VK2RSY beacon,
relog. WGB list:  ``28262 VK2RSY - Sydney NSW AUS QF56mh - #0 (10 Jan
2024) Note: ID + grid + 30" carrier. Pwr 25w`` - really gets out.
Otherwise had beacons from UT and CA, see USA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.9, June 12 at 2019 UT, dead air in $ tereo, no doubt
semi-local KIMY Watonga. RDS still displays statickly GOSPEL__ /
STATION. Still dead at further chex past 2200. Std remark about how
can a station expect to have any listeners if no one there even
notices when it`s silent? Used to have a translator in Enid on 93.1
which added another level of unreliability (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, June 12 at 1510 UT and at random chex last few
days, Enid`s only local TV signal, K17JN-D misidentifying as K17JI-D,
is apparently off again. Now there is a BAD signal on RF 17, probably
KTEN Ada, as area tropo is up. Or possibly K17JN-D is on but
underpowered, and even more subject to DX QRM. It`s the 3ABN network
satellator with multiple sub-channels, two or three of them AUDIO ONLY
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed June 12 at 2200, token English from SNR, S9+20/30
direct, M. Quintana only, preview about Spain backing South Africa in
ICOJ case against Israel. 2201.5 news starting with far-right gains in
EU elexions including in Spain. Other three frequencies much weaker
but audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, June 12 at 2159, VOT IS JBA direct vs S9 noise
level. From 2225 I`m on UTwente where measured, S9+20/45, in music.
2228.5 `Sports Panorama` MEGO. 2233 songs only to 2253 s/off by OM
unmentioning SW, into IS until 2254.5* chop (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Sporadic E MUF well into FM band today June 12 but none
caught here in several afternoon bandscans. One patch was too close
over NW OK/SW KS to be of any use here. At least managed some HF Es,
10m band beacons: 28300 at 2203, perennial high-power K6FRC in
California.

28209+ at 2207, VVV VVV VVV DE K7EMX/B. WGB list: ``28209.5  K7EMX/B -
Kearns UT DN39xp - #0 (06 Oct 2023) Note: ID + grid`` - Sounded closer
to 28209 than 28210.
QRZ.com: ``K7EMX USA flag USA, PAUL R LARSON, 5057 LOOMIS LN, KEARNS,
UT 84118, USA`` If you have hours -- days? to spare, check out his
HUGE illustrated page, stills and audiovideos with lots of humor,
partly political:
https://www.qrz.com/db/K7EMX
Note especially this 31-minute YT about WBCQ and World`s Last Chance:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/9dUaMXxWYao?rel=0

WWV also S9+20 on 25000 with 2210 announcement about ``this station``,
WWVB being low-powered due to antenna damage; and pounding on 20000.
Also had one from AUSTRALIA, q.v., F2 of course, but last hop maybe
assisted by Es.

Whenever checking out 10m I also try 26110 for the FM auxiliary of
KOVR Stockton which used to be active around newstimes, but never a
bit any more (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2246 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
June 11 at 2332 the 2330 on Shortwave Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.004,
S9/+5 and noisy into UTwente.

Also confirmed Tuesday June 11 at 2333 the 2330 on WRMI 9395, S8/9+20
into Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday June 12 at 1955 the 1930 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.001, S9+15 into UTwente with a whine unlike a het; and
3975.004, S9+10/15. 1959 outro jingle for `CQ Serenade` of which WOR
is a part, and 2000 `Letterbox Show` except announcements are in
German with Bad Homberg address and there are no letters, just music
for a few minutes.

Missed checking Wed June 12 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490-; anyone hear it?
Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. By MO or

73702.

woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7288.90V, June 12 at 0637, ham in AM, immediately
recognizable voice of ``Timtron`` - Tim Smith of WBCQ presumably from
faraway home QTH, Skowhegan, Maine. And he`s talking about WBCQ!
Unfortunately fading, R3/S5-S9 so I cannot copy all the details, but
fragments. Mentions air filters for transmitters, Allan this-and-that.
The MW-50 transmitter. Got a transmitter from WYFR/WRMI in FL, moved
by Ryder rent-a-truck. Now his signal has varied down to 7288.82. 3265
transmitter is just sitting there, nobody wants to buy time on it.
Refers to a fire happening, belch. Not clear whether something recent
or historical. Finally at 0648 gives his callsign WA1HLR,  and off.
Can`t hear his contact. 0649 back on and back up to 7288.90. Says WBCQ
has a CP to move FM station into non-commercial band! Finishes at 0653
addressing his contact as Blair (?). And I am QRT whether he is or
not. If he runs much later into night, will clash with RRIndonesia on
7289.93; watch out, Ron Howard. The 7290 area of course is hangout for
AM hams on 40m. Timtron is usually in the 3890 AM area on 80m band.

FCC FM Query and LMS do not show any CP for WBCQ-FM 94.7 and the only
other in Monticello is their translator of 780, W252DW on 98.3. 94.7
is licensed until 04/01/2030 to ``Allan H Weiner & Barbara A. Weiner``
-- I guess the A is for Angela? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, June 12 at 0635, NO signal from R. Vanuatu direct.
Ron Howard agrees: ``June 12, Radio Vanuatu off the air during random
checking 0605-0910 UT.
Ron, Asilomar State Beach, Calif. (near Monterey), CommRadio CR-1,
external antenna: 100 ft. long wire`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
