** U S A. 5085, Aug 22 at 0202, this WTWW is back on the air with
Truth2Ponder, VG signal direct, S9+50/60! George McClintock informs me
before 1600 that will try 9475 again later today. Good news: the
factory in Germany is so concerned about the failure of their
transmitter that they are sending someone over next week to work on
it. The other transmitter, #1 is a ``total disaster, fell apart``, and
there is no one to blame but -- you know who. 5085 only is again on
air at 0130 check August 23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WRMI anomalies: 5800, Thu Aug 22 at 0644, S9+10/20 of dead
air, must be WRMI-10, which normally finishes at 0400* and no jamming
audible. 5950 WRMI-8, normally also off at 0400* is S9+30/35 with
TOMBS at 0645, and running about 4 words behind 5850, WRMI-12 which is
normally overnight. Also the continuing anomalies of 9955 WRMI-3 with
RFI Spanish, and 5010 WRMI-14 with TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2257)

** U S A. (880), Aug 22 at 1530 UT, WCBS NYC amid a two-sesquihour
retrospective before it`s deleted Aug 26, via webcast
https://www.audacy.com/stations/wcbs880# ;
at one point mentioned that WNYC devoted a semihour yesterday to WCBS.
This looks like it, sound and full transcript from Aug 19:
https://www.wnyc.org/story/wcbs-newsradio-signs-off-for-good/
It was also mentioned there would be another retrospective on WCBS
itself, Saturday at 8 am = Aug 24 at 12 UT; and listen for the final
final broadcast Sunday night before midnight EDT = UT Monday August 26
0345-0400******* UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2257)

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS

``Call me a geek if you like, but over the past several months, your
Propagation Outlook on World of Radio, has become the high point of my
week. Before the cycle commenced, experts were predicting it would be
one of the weakest cycles in centuries. Well, cycle 25 has confounded
the experts. Solar flux above 300. I'm making the best of it because
I'm now at an age when this may well be the last Solar Max I get to
experience. Thanks for all your valuable information. Doug Brown,
London ON``

Glenn Hauser logs August 20-21, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, August 22 2024

Logs
** CUBA. 15140, Aug 21 at 1815, S5/S7 of dead air, in Arabic? Did not
get around to checking if Englishing after 1900. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. Re 11610, R. Feda on Madagascar World Voice: what does
Feda mean? Google will only translate it from Turkish, not Arabic, as
sacrifice; reverse translation from sacrifice to Arabic yields:
tashia. I can`t find any explanation in WRTH or online. R Feda seems
to exist separately from MWV, based in Lebanon (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. ``PUBLIC NOTICE Published in the Enid News & Eagle August
20, 2024 LPXLP (282) --- Tillman Infrastructure, LLC is proposing to
construct a 174-foot overall height monopole telecommunications
structure near 4509 Unruh Drive, Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma (N36°
26’ 25.1”; W97° 55’ 04.8”). Tillman Infrastructure, LLC invites
comments from any interested party on the impact the proposed
undertaking may have on any districts, sites, buildings, structures,
or objects significant in American history, archaeology, engineering,
or culture that are listed or determined eligible for listing in the
National Register of Historic Places. Comments may be sent to
Environmental Corporation of America, ATTN: Annamarie Howell, 1375
Union Hill Industrial Court, Suite A, Alpharetta, GA 30004 or via
email to publicnotice@eca-usa.com. Ms. Howell can be reached at (770)
667-2040 x 108 during normal business hours. Comments must be received
within 30 days of the date of this notice. 24-002152 MMT``

WTF,K?? Such notices are not unusual around here - but totally
unconcerned with RF interference impact!!!!!!! (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935.400, Aug 21 at 1556, Yemen service is S9+15
into UTwente, Arabic, no jamming or other noise. Ditto at 1756 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Aug 21 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9+20/30 direct and the other 3 audible; preview second topic about
preserving the Iberian wolf. 2202 news leads with killings of children
in Toledo, hate crimes; 31 women have been murdered in Spain by
spouses or exes; M-pox; 117-year-old woman dies. 2207 first feature is
about rights of victims` families vs media portrayals of ``true
crimes``. What a downer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Aug 21 at 2158, no signal direct from VOT English,
but *2200 JBA S6/S7, unusable, so over to SPAIN. 2205, 11785 is off,
gave up, nor heard later in hour even unto UTwente. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2256 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
August 20 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+5/15 but noisy direct.

Also confirmed Tuesday August 20 at 2342 the 2330 on SW GOld Radio,
Germany, 3975.003-, S8/9+5 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday August 21 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.000+ at S9/+10 and 3975.002+, S9+10/15 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday August 21 at 2110 the 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -72
Hz 7489.928, S7/S9 into NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As a non-commercial service, voluntary financial support appreciated.
Thanks this week to Richard Terry Colgan, Austin TX, ``Thanks for your
hard work on WOR``, with a contribution via PayPal in US funds but not
necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, Aug 20 at 2329, this WTWW with TOMBS is off already,
tho had been on earlier at 2211. Now NO WTWW frequencies are on air;
nor after 0100 does 5920 appear.

George McClintock sends me this the morning of Aug 21: ``WTWW: SW100
belts --- Glenn, The SW100 Harris #3 transmitter lost 2 drive belts
that allow control of the IPA and plate motors. Spares were replaced
and are now working fine. The last SW100 problem is the error light
that stays on preventing the high voltage from being applied.  I have
not been able to correct this problem YET.`` {with photos} {2 minutes
later:} ``The IPA driver and the plate tune motor belts being
replaced. Not an easy job.
George McClintock 8-21-2024``

Circa 1830 Aug 21 he needs me to monitor as he attempts to bring
transmitter up on 9930; may not be getting accurate frequency
readouts. I get a big blob of extreme distortion circa 9790-9795,
confirmed as WTWW when he cuts modulation momentarily. Correlates with
a JBA carrier on 9475 when he is trying to come up there. Something is
very wrong with this other transmitter. But at 2130 he notifies me
that he did get ``5`` to come up, presumably 5085, so WOR could appear
as scheduled UT Saturday at 0300; but no telling what more might
happen in meantime. He says the other transmitter will be out for
maybe two weeks awaiting manufacture and shipment of replacement part
from Germany. Meanwhile he has built a backup studio at the site.
Another check about 2230 and 2355: no signals on 5085, 5920, 9475 or
9930 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
