** CUBA. 6000, Nov 16 at 0438, RHC S9+20/30 but JBM allegedly in

``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW November 7, 2023
UPR: UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW --- What is the UN Universal Periodic
Review and how will the Cuban regime fare?
The Review is a process that allows states to improve their human
rights records, but the island's regime is covering up Cuban realities
and evading the review's requirements. ANGELES ROSAS | Madrid``...

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490+, Nov 16 at 0443, new offset+plus signature of WBCQ,
but JBA direct, much weaker than normal. These two factors lead me to
suspect it`s a backup transmitter in the wake of main unit failure and
off the air for a few days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2217)

** U S A. 7505, Nov 16 at 0439, WRNO is S9+30/40 direct in presumed
Hindi; why should Hindi-speakers be Christians instead of Hindus? Or
maybe they should become Jews? Certainly back on the air, for now
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2217)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re: "... 610, Nov 15 at 0657 UT, Mexmx unusual...GA and
OR, both unlikely..." Greg Hardison replies:

``I dunno. WPLO/"La Bonita" was pretty clearly heard in the 610 mess
on a West Virginia remote last night (Nov 16 UTC). Seems they could be
cheating, and the signal usually gets out around the East fairly well
anyway. If you hear any sporadic "La Bonita"s, that should cinch it``

Glenn Hauser logs November 15-16, 2023  View Printable Version
Thursday, November 16 2023

Logs
** EAST TURKISTAN. Xinjiang PBS reported by Dr Hj Biener to have
resumed its lower 60ish mb winter frequencies, so I make my annual
check of them shortly after sign-on circa local sunrise when it`s
grayline to me circa local sunset, Nov 15 {not 14 as in original
report} at 0040 UT:
5060, JBA Chinese, a bit stronger of course than the rest:
4980, JBA algo, Uyghur service
4850, JBA algo, Kazakh service
4500, JBA carrier, Mongolian service, vs CODAR
With nothing further identifiable, this quartet make it obvious
whence.

Ron Howard got the new schedule as of Nov 14 from Hiroshi, sign-on
times:
5060, 2310- 4980, 2310- 4850, 2315- 4500, 2315-
Current Aoki:
5060, 2310- 4980, 2315- 4850, 2315- 4500, 2315-
EiBi has nothing anywhere on all four frequencies. Anyway, all should
be on by 2315. All of them have several higher frequencies, and the
lower ones again in the local evening, impossibly midday here.

Gaisma.com shows today`s Nov 15 sunrise at Urumqi, ``China``: 0103-
UT. In a bimonth will be near its latest, 0141-, i.e. 9:41 am by local
clock required to be on Beijing time of UT+8 rather than when it
should be, UT+6. Due to imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs
and other Moslems.

WRTH 2023 dispenses with any sked info and lists all four not at
Urumqi, but ``Changji``! Is that the same as Changzhi in gaisma.com?
But that`s way off in east China near Beijing.

Mauno Ritola replies: ``Changji is at 43 58.5N 87 15E, 35 km
east-southeast of the FS and MW site, so clearly a separate site. Best
regards, Mauno`` i.e. near Urumqi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Re 1520, KOKC allegedly back to 50 kW DA-N:
Mike Beu at 0144 Nov 15: ``Hey Glenn: Interesting info about KOKC
antenna pattern change - definitely weaker down south in Austin, Texas
- easier now to DX the channel. KRHW Sikeston, MO with C&W music is
frequently audible under KOKC including now at 0144 UTC, here in
Austin. Receiving Equipment: Drake R8B, Terminated Delta (17ft apex
and 28ft base) -, northeast, Mini-Flag (7ft by 15ft) - southeast.
Pennant (14ft by 29ft) - southeast. 73, Mike Beu, KD5DSQ, Austin,
Texas``

And on the WOR iog in EST: ``1520 KOKC OK Oklahoma City 11/14, 2330
{0430 UT Nov 15}. Chad Benson talk program, in and out, over/under
co-channel QRM. Man at 2359. "KOKC...95 point 3 and 15-20 AM".
Stronger signal than we usually get here post-tornado, but not really
as strong as pre-tornado. A hard call to make, this listening session,
if they really at full power. Monitored on Grundig Satellit 205 and
internal loop. -- Rick Barton-AZ``

>From IRCA iog Nov 14: ``Last night and this morning KOKC 1520 did not
appear to be back to normal. Weak signal compared to what it was
before the tornado took down towers. -- John Johnson DXing from Mesa,
Arizona, SDRplay RSPduo, Wellbrook ALA1530LNP``

``Paul B. Walker, Jr., Alaska: ``They might be doing some final fine
turning before turning things up for good.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2216 monitoring: confirmed UT
Wednesday November 15 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+25/15 into Missouri
SDR.

Not confirmed Wednesday November 15 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490v; at first no
signal audible on BSR1 caradio or DX398 portable; nor by 2230 on
5130v, but a trace of something on 7490. Could anyone hear WOR? `BCQ
had been missing from 7490 but at last previous check was back on.
Also confirmed on at 0048 November 16 about 7490.06 direct on the plus
side for a change. Maryland SDR shows 7490.073; 5130 back to T****,
5130.308. Next:fs

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 610, Nov 15 at 0657 UT, Mexmx unusual, dominating, 0700
very brief announcement in a fade. NRC AM Log shows the only USSS are
in GA and OR, both unlikely; and only five Mexicans, XEGS Guasave,
Sinaloa probably most likely, and four others (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1440, caradio on an expedition 30km N of Enid, two weak
signals interfading, one religious, the other talk, likely early
skywave from KEXP Metroplex TX, 50 kW day power; and KMAJ Topeka KS,
respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

LANGUAGE LESSONS

``Anti-Semitism`` and ``Islamophobia`` are being treated under current
circumstances as equivalent and certainly both to be condemned. But
they are not equivalent. Islamophobia means *fear* of Islam, so should
there be a corresponding way to say fear of Judaism? Or are we really
trying to talk about hate, not fear. In the latter case, an
appropriate Latinate construxion would be Islamodium. But what about
the other? Anti-Semitism has always been problematic, but is so
ingrained that we are unlikely to get rid of the term. You see, both
most Jews and Arabs are Semitic, so it`s nonsensical to apply it only
to Jews. How about Judodium to go with Islamodium? (Glenn Hauser, WOR)

Logs
** FRANCE. 21640+, Nov 14 at 1546, JBA carrier direct, presumably
MiniTransAt sailboat race still underway from Canarias to Guadeloupe.
Had not checked for it since Nov 6, over a week. Signature
off-frequency. The other Issouduns at this hour are much stronger with
modulation, 21485 and 21690. The 15-16 bilingual weather and race info
hour on 21640 should be over at latest by Nov 23 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1520, Nov 14 at 0746, KOKC OKC seems stronger than usual,
S9+45/35 direct in talk. Paul Walker heard that it had finally resumed
50 kW direxional westward at night. For years was on STA 12 kW ND
after antenna damage. Back in the glory days as KOMA with rock, was a
powerhouse in western N America, and of course on to Down Under. Now
there is QRM from a music understation, I wonder what. Even with DA-N
we are not getting the full brunt of it thisaway to the NNW (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Nov 14 at 2300, VOT English not off the
air, S9+20/30 between line noise bursts. Measured at 2351 via UTwente,
S9+35/40. 2352 s/off mangled with usual wrong time schedule by
ignorant clueless announcer; IS briefly and off before 2355*
uncovering the CCCCCCI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130.21 approx., Nov 14 at 0756, WBCQ with S9+10 of dead air
instead of T**** or TOMBS; 7490- programming had been moved here but
would be off the air anyway long before this hour.

7490- is back on Nov 14 at 2259 after a few days AWOL, S9+20 and still
off-frequency-minus.

5130.2, Nov 14 at 2307 is too weak direct and vs line noise level, but
probably back to T**** cultism (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4941.00, Nov 14 at 2304, S9+10 open carrier, then off. No
sign of 4940 Venezombia unless this were it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5050, Nov 14 at 2306, JBA carrier, surely too weak to be
WRMI, not sked anyway until *0200. Possibly Beibu Bay Radio, China
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Lots of 2-way activity below the official CB, Nov 14 at
2309-2318:

25985-LSB, maybe Brasuguese, autobeeps at cambios
26320-FM, music at first but not a studio link, switch to 2-way talk,
lang?
26375-LSB, lots of Spanish? 2-way upward from here
26555-LSB, pileup of Spanish and?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
