Hauser

** CANADA. 15034 USB, Feb 24 at 1625 UT, Trenton Military ID and
``time: 1525 zulu``! amid ``no report received`` from various
locations. Standard derision (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Feb 24 at 2300, token English from SNR VG direct,
also on 17715 for SAm, and audible on 17755 for Africa, unlike vacant
12030 for ME.

But they are not giving up on SW, unlike so many other countries. Via
RUS-DX:

``Director of Radio Exterior de España on the fate of shortwave
broadcasting:
Only a complete upgrade of radio transmitters can guarantee the
survival of Spanish radio

Luís Manuel Fernández Iglesias in an interview with the Russian
section of REE reported the latest information on the process of
upgrading transmitters at the Noblejas transmitting center.

"Another major goal that we have is the renewal of radio transmitters.
It is too early to talk about a complete victory, but we have already
taken a number of important steps in this direction. A couple of
months ago, the board of directors of the Spanish Broadcasting
Corporation (RTVE) unanimously voted to renew all five radio
transmitters that are located in our Noblejas broadcasting center.

Only a complete renewal of all radio transmitters can guarantee the
survival of Radio Exterior de España (REE) as the only Spanish radio
station broadcasting on short waves around the world. Details in

** TURKEY. 9610, Sun Feb 23 at 2200 quick check of VOT English into
UTwente reveals `Letterbox` show in progress, so I`ll make a point of
catching it all on the 2300+ repeat:

5960.004-, Sun Feb 23 at 2257, VOT IS underway, S9+35/45 into UTwente;
2300 TS and s/on English as if it were 1330 on 13635, previews `Review
of the Turkish Press` to follow the news which starts with Israel tanx
in West Bank for first time in ? years. There is a constant low
humroar, and 6CI = Chinese Communist Chinese language co-channel
interference, but VOT still listenable.

`Agenda` segment ends at 2319, goodbye till next week. 2320 repeat of
piece written by someone at UNC Chapel Hill, about linguistix,
emotional concepts depend on languages.

2325 `The Letterbox Program` theme, familiar YL voice hostess, but
doesn`t give her name. Not the heavily accented one. Very happy to be
back after 1.5 months. L`box may also be heard during the week. What
happened: TRT Global launched to be multilingual, but English Desk
downgraded to a support role, translating material in English into
Turkish, for further translation by various other language
departments. More and more email from listeners came in objecting to
this, so she compiled a report of this constructive criticism, for
management which then went to department heads. Two weeks later,
decided to put the English department back in charge. This had been a
disservice to TRT radio broadcasts, she dares to say.

Then reads emails, some from familiar names: Alan Roe in UK, very sad,
with TRT World TV soundtrack replacing VOT from Jan 1; someone in
Germany. John Jurasek, USA; someone else from USA. Terry Moore? from
UK. 2333 music break. 2338 mail about English received by the German
dept: Helmut, Ralf; Hj Biener who mentions at 2342, Glenn Hauser who
had been listening daily; Alan Holder on WOR no longer interested if
it`s TRT World TV audio.

Finally mentions some new programs for 2025, but I can`t catch all the
names: Monday, new travelog; Tuesday, The First Quarter of the
Century; Wednesday, Sports Panorama. ... Foreign Policy Analysis.
There will be only one program about politix. Contact info; 2345
folksong to close, 2349 outro and more music. 2353.6 s/off as if 1330;
2354 IS to 2354.8* uncovering the 6CI.

Before compiling the above complete report, I tipped the WOR iogroup
about catching the final repeat at 0425 UT Monday Feb 24 on 6125, 7285
- which I then quickly confirm indeed on the air, but no other reports
of it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004-, Feb 24 at 2300, JBA carrier direct
from VOT if that`s it -- we are getting into springish conditions
where that frequency is really too low to reach into deep North
America at such an early hour, but gotta stay there until A25 more
than a month away when presumably will ascend to 25 m like 11785 last
year. But at 2341 check into UTwente, when measured, 5960+ is VG S9+40
with music only, but heavier than usual CCCCCCI; 2353 s/off as if it`s
the 1330 on 13635; only 6 notes of IS before no-finesse chopoff at
2354.6* uncovering Chinese music from PBS Xinjiang RTV, Urumqi, East
Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and
other Moslems. Aoki shows it starts relaying CNR1 at 0000. BTW my
invoking that does not minimize the Ottoman genocide of Armenians
which today`s Turkey still denies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 400 MCW kHz, Feb 24 at 0708 UT, AHQ, ND beacon at wAHoo,
Nebraska, the main/only somewhat notable one during this LW bandscan,
not always audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110 NBFM, Feb 24 at 1617, S7 so not full quieting, KMK282,
aux of KOVR 13 Stockton/Sacramento, discussion about ``organizing your
life``.

This is the ONLY such station I have heard in a long time, but be
alert on other 11mb frequencies, especially this one from Terry L
Krueger:

``25950 (NBFM) UNIDENTIFIED 1755 17 FEB 2025. There is definitely
someone with an STL here. I've noticed this for a while. Today, super
tiny snatches of audio for the first time, but it never breaks
through. Wasn't there an Oregon or Washington state here ages ago?
Surely whatever it is, it's west coast USA propagationally. Anyone
else? Terry L Krueger, Boggy, Florida Occidental, IC-R75, NRD-535,
ICF-7600GR, Tescun PL-360, active loop, random fence-stapled wire,
misc. junk``

My understanding is that these are not studio-transmitter-linx, which
is accomplished more likely on microwave, but studio audio on a
non-delayed basis for accurate cuing/conversation with reporters in the
field.

** U S A. 9917.1 & 9942.9, Feb 24 at 1631, matching JBA carrier spurs
equidistant from 9930 WTWW with TOMBS, which is S9+25, briefly hit by
``running water`` QRM. These spurs are at exactly same displacement,
plus/minus 12.9 kHz, as long accompanying 5085, on 5072.1 & 5097.9!
Trouble is, 9930 is supposedly WTWW-1 transmitter and 5085 WTWW-2
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my unID carrier on 1549.83, replies on ABDX:
``Neil Kazaross --- I had a carrier there from here in IL during the
early Jan AU cx on my South DKAZ. I do hope you can DF this or maybe
someone knows who they are. It just wasn't strong enough for audio. 73
KAZ``

``Tim Hall -- For what it's worth, the 1549.829 (approx) carrier was
all over my recordings from the Nevada-Utah border last October, and
audible past 1200 UT which eliminates South America.``

``Neil Kazaross -- This is good to know. So this is domestic or
Mexican it seems``

1549.82 approx., Feb 24 at 0540 UT, there it is again; I try to DF it
on portables but too weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 550, Feb 22 at 0648, wobbler QRM to US pileup, sort of like
wind whining rapidly. Now similar sound against WWL on 880, where the
wobbling had been much slower. Nothing on 1040 now. WRTH shows one
Cuban on 550, R. Rebelde, Pinar del Río (GLenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15125, Feb 22 at 0100, CRI in English weak signal
into Georgia SDR, 0104 a bit better into Maryland, but no show of
Radio Öömrang, via FRANCE as predicted by one unreliable and
unspecified source (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 660, Feb 22 at 0700, full ID for XHGBO 92.1 and this time I
do also hear MW ID as XEFZ 660, ABC Deportes, Monterrey (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 21 at 2315 check, token English from SNR, VG
into Georgia SDR, almost as good on 17715, JBA on 17755, and still
absent from 12030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 21 at 2257, no signal from VOT into UTwente, and
9610.000+ has China, anthem at 2300. But by 2316 check into Georgia
SDR, 5960 is now on, VOT English, but no time to listen. A reply to my
previous report:

``Hi Glenn, new segment on Thursday was called "Dream Destinations".
Also today (Friday) saw another two new segments - called "Travelogue"
and "The Pulse of Turkish Foreign Policy". Seems like the staff of the
English desk were busy during their hiatus developing new segments.
Alan Roe, Teddington, UK``

5960 and possible erroneous alternative 9610 are both missing, no VOT
into UTwente at 2300 and later Feb 22 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

February 21 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S9+45 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed Friday February 21 at 2330 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003+, S9 into UTwente.

Also at 2330 George McClintock informs me that WTWW-2 is off the air
again, so this week no WOR UT Sat at 0400 on 5085.

Saturday Feb 22 at 0930 on WRMI 9455? I still manage not to awaken
during this to check, but 9455 is certainly off the air before 0800
and also off when I check around 1030; while 7730 is on with TOMBS. At
some point after hurricane damage, 9455 programming at that hour was
supposedly put on 7730 instead. Current transmitter grid shows WRMI-11
9455 OFF the air 0400-2300. But blue System D program grid still shows
9455 at 0900-1000 only, including WOR Sat at 0930, while 7730 is TOMBS
thruout. Contradixions!

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, UT Sat Feb 22 at 0045 into
Georgia SDR, nothing audible on 3265, 5130, 6160; only 7490 -76 Hz =
7489.924 with FKB, S9+10/20; 9330.00, S9+20/30 with WLCR Brazuguese.

At 0100 into Georgia, 7490 -77 Hz = 7489.923 with `WTO` theme, opening
voiceover about ``humming along``; also on 9330 // 5130; 3265 still
off and 6160 on with else. By 0104 discussing air conditioning;
complains about the bug he caught 2 weeks ago on flight from Bangor,
to Sanford, leading to mucus; worse than COVID he had twice [really?
not often do SW hosts tell us about their mucus]. Talking about vacuum
tubes, octals, radio stuff. 0136 about ``Radio Central``, early radio
comms site at Riverhead, Long Island, from longwave to shortwave, and
how trans-Atlantic phone calls were accomplished by SW linx, with some
kind of scrambling. 0140 datestamp as 21 of February, YOOLF 2025, from
Studio 9 in Deland of Fla. on 7490, 9330, 5130. 0141 a ``radio song``,
outro as by REM. 0145 invites email, hunting for another song; 0147
Free Radio Weekly #1509 just in, reads several items with incomplete
info; then misc. emails to 0159 prayer, 0201 JIP Hal Turner on 7490;
5130 -36 Hz = 5129.964 at S9/+20 stays on with music a bit longer
until 0203* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Feb 22 at 0648-0708 UT, another longwave bandscan
