[IRCA] TP 6 Feb Victoria version
A lively morning from early on, and faded out more normally after
1530UT. By 1200UT, a number of big guns on the low to mid band were
holding forth with great energy, some at their strongest for the
morning. Many of the signals noted below were at the level
indicated on and off for hours. Nice to snag a raft of CNR1
stations, even if only weakly.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):
747 JOIB man in Japanese 1527UT; this was heard first at 1000UT.
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1158UT, probably got to this level at other
times, but who was paying attention? Still good at 1543UT s/off as was 747
972 HLCA man in Korean 1528UT
1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese 1516UT
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
567 JOIK man in Japanese, pips 1200UT
594 JOAK man in Japanese //567 1513UT
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:
828 JOBB man in Japanese 1201UT //774
1323 CRI man and woman in Russian, peaking briefly at 1521UT
1575 VoA, ID's, Yankee Doodle, VoA jingle, kitchen sink, 1329-30UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)
558 man talking 1340UT, Korean rather than Japanese sound to it (the
Japanese station tends to be, ah, livelier)
639 CNR1 man in Chinese //6125 1532UT
738 man mumbling 1201 UT
693 JOAB man in Japanese //774 1201UT
846 musical interlude, man and woman talking, 1332UT, not //594
891 JOHK pips 1200UT man talking //567
945 CNR1 woman and man talking //6125 and to 1593 1523UT
954 man talking, Japanese inflection 1517UT
981 CNR1 man talking 1324UT //1593, both pretty rugged
1017 woman talking, possibly Korean 1345UT
1053 Korean jammer 1319UT
1089 pop music 1526UTnot //774, no idea
1206 woman talking in hum 1323UT
1593 CNR1 man talking //6125 1517UT, but had been hanging around for hours
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)
675 702 756 864 873 918 927 1008 1098 1116 1134 1143 1359 1386
1422 1494 1512 1557
best wishes,
Nick
