[IRCA] TP 5 Feb Victoria version
What a frustrating mess is the best I can say. Conditions were
reasonable from about 1430UT onwards, mostly the big guns though not
terribly strong. A little after 1500UT, things really opened up,
sort of. Lots of carriers, extremely erratic fading meant that you
were never sure from one moment to the next whether you were hearing
splatter or snatches of audio. And then there was the splatter.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):
594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1517UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1444UT
1566 HLAZ in quite well for the half hour or more, though erratic
fading at times, and occasional Chinese talk interfering with
it. Slow oriental sounding female vocal music and accompaniment at
1520 UT was particularly good .
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
738 Tahiti. Odd one out with odd programming too. Big band style
music, male vocal, then announcer with a few words in Frenc 1432UT
1575 VoA woman and man SE Asian language 1420UT; weaker at 1429UT
with Voice of America ID by man
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:
558 HLQH man in Korean 1519UT //603; music there as well assumed Japan
567 JOIK man in Japanese 1508UT //594
747 JOIB man in Japanese //1386 1516UT; 774 in various times as well,
not a great signal today though
1314 JOUF assumed woman in Japanese 1319UT
1503 JOUK woman in Japanese, 1520UT //594
1593 CNR1 woman in Chinese //6125 1521UT, but often mixed up with
something else
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)
1143 man talking, maybe Chinese? 1514UT
1242 JOLF? woman talking, sounded Japanese 1517UT
1269 man talking, maybe two stations, didn't seem //1287 1522UT
1287 JOHR woman talking, Japanese inflection 1518UT
1377 slow music not //CNR1 or NHK2 1525UT
1386 NHK2 mand talking //747 1458UT; also made a mumber of appearances
1422 man talking, Japanese inflection ? 1431UT and various other
times later on
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)
828 1098 1107 1134 1188 1206 1251 1278 1359 1323 1332 1404 1413 1494
best wishes,
Nick
