Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Argentina 1030 recent reception in MA through WBZ

I get the top-of-hour pips quite often but this is the best audio from here so far.

I had a comparable pick-up in the '80s from what was then my parents house on Trowbridge Path, West Yarmouth about 4 km west of here.

Antenna used is 10m tall by 11m across SuperLoop with the null at 345 degrees, not too far off the heading to WBZ. Similar to ' http://www.bamlog.com/superloop.htm '. That definitely helps. The '80s reception was from phasing an indoor loop against a sloper to the top of a pine tree. Likely that combo provided a similar cardioid pattern with a northwestward null (as in old loop / whip RDF antennas used on planes, or Ron Schatz's LSCA scheme). In the '80s an indoor loop was still actually a playable DX antenna, unlike in today's gnarly house-gadget-RFI environment. Because DX was done one frequency at a time, the loop could be tuned for best sensitivity in a small size. Nulling (whether by loop positioning or two-antenna phasing) only had to work on the frequency of interest +/- 10 kHz or so. The advent of spectrum-storing SDR's brought about the need for a consistent null across the entire AM band and, fortunately, terminated loops stepped in to fill the need for those without room for Beverages.

That's very cool so close to WBZ!
Is that a new catch for you or have you done this before?

Argentina on 1030 received within 60 miles / 100 km of the WBZ towers. Duking it out with 'BZ here at South Yarmouth, MA: Shania Twain "Man I Feel Like a Woman", pips, "Noticias del Plata" at top of hour: UTC 31 OCT at 0200.
