Re: [IRCA] THE OTHER HAWAIIAN REPORT

KMYC's website shows a 24/7 conservative talk lineup. KZDG is very likely your 1550. It would have been on day pattern, which sends everything to the west and northwest. It does a lot of strange stuff.

When DXing on Maui DU was fairly common; even on some rental car radios. In late September of 2001 I heard KOMA (now KOKC) extremely well on a rental car radio. My new bride thought that was cool. :) Co-located 1020 and 1150 from Los Angeles were common. KTCT-1050 in the SF Bay Area was also common. It's licensed for 10 kW at night but runs full day 50 kW power and pattern 24/7 under an STA that was granted in 1999 and is extended every six months. The reason is XED cheats big time.

North American reception is pretty well blocked by the rather large mountains; electrical noise at both places didnât help much either. Bob Coomler, yes, youâll be in great shape for North America but not so good for Asia. (Be sure to go to the Botanical Garden!)

Driving back 2 hours after local sunset, I listened for about 15 minutes before the mountains started blocking reception. The dial was alive from 540-1150 with U.S. stations audible on just about every frequency which did not have a Hawaiian station on it. KTNQ-1020 was the loudest.
