[IRCA] TP 15 Oct Victoria version

A bit of a wild ride from 1355 to about 1420UT. Lots of Japanese, couple of Koreans, maybe Taiwan. One new one for me with JOEF-918 finally nailed down, and if JOCK-729 isn't new, it is a rare visitor.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

567 JOIK briefly at this level at 1402UT, woman talking //594
594 JOAK pretty much the king amongst a pretty stately lot, with a fairly consistent excellent signal. The cut glass enunciation by the NHK1 announcers might make you think you could understand Japanese if only you listened a little harder. Noted "NHK Radyo" ID at 1415UT
747 JOIB Chinese lessons, 5dB stronger than 750 domestics, 1358UT
774 JOUB Chinese lessons 1354UT
1053 Korean jammer 1401UT, cut off in mid-whoosh at 1402:10
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1404UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

693 JOAB English lessons 1411UT
828 JOBB Chinese lessons 1357UT
864 HLKR "H-L-K-A" ID (I think; last letter didn't sound like 'R', and was sort of an afterthought after the 'K') by woman, 3 and 1 pips on the hour, man in Korean.
891 JOHK man in Japanese //594, 1400UT, no pips across hour
954 JOKR two men in Japanese 1417UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

666 JOBK woman in Japanese //594 1414UT
738 Tahiti, odd man out, with man in French 1400UT
837 JOQK man in Japanese //594 1359UT
972 HLCA woman in Korean 1403UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

558 soft music, then faded to woman talking 1351UT, maybe Korea and Japan?
702 NHK2 CC lessons //774 1356UT
729 JOCK woman talking //594 1418UT, using the Vactrol termination to knock down 730 Vancouver
846 NHK1 man in Japanese //594 1409UT
873 JOGB man in Japanese //774 1356UT, struggling with splatter
918 JOEF woman talking //1242 and lagging it slightly, 1403UT
1053 man and woman talking, sounded Japanese 1427UT
1134 man talking 1412UT, too much splash for language guess
1143 woman talking Chinese inflection 1405UT
1386 NHK2 man and woman talking //774 1340UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

1098 1116 1188

best wishes,

Nick
