[IRCA] TP 20 Sep Victoria version

In spite of the discouraging comments from others, I found it to be a rather eclectic morning...Japan, New Zealand, Korea, Australia....

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

"eclectic" not "good"

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR heard weakly as early as 1200UT with ABC fanfare, peaked at this level with slow female vocal //702 at 1338UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

567 RNZ National man in DU English 1211UT, //756 as it faded down
756 RNZ National man in DU English 1208UT, //567 a minute later. A weaker reprise at 1312 when //675. 828 JOBB, a bit of a shock w/man in Japanese 1214UT, led to hearing a couple of other Asians; all gone by 1240T however

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

594 JOAK likely with man talking enthusiastically, sounded Japanese, general hilarity from the bystanders. 1233UT
702 woman talking 1337UT //612 which was considebly stronger.
675 RNZ National. man talking //756 1313UT
738 pop music 1200UT, likely Tahiti
774 3LO man talking then slow instrumental lead in to slow male singing //612 1324UT
774 JOUB man talking 1228UT //828
819 RNZ National. operatic singing //675 1337UT
828 3GI woman talking //612 but delayed slightly 1329UT
1017 unID. Big carrier likely from Tonga?? but there was a weak insistent male speaker across the hour at 1300UT. Tonga is undermodulated but this was really weak compared with the carrier strength
1053 Korean jammer 1224UT
1566 HLAZ slow music then woman talking Japanese inflection 1231UT, would have missed it if I hadn't been looking for it

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

855 1287 1503

best wishes,

Nick
