If signal levels were compared, I'm sure that a great day in Puyallup would be considered a mediocre day in Masset-- or maybe even in Victoria. But there was no doubt that propagation improved dramatically here this morning, in comparison to yesterday. It will be interesting to hear what the other fanatics experienced.

A dramatic propagation improvement boosted most of the low band Japanese
signals up to very potent levels this morning, with 594, 693, 747, 774 and
828 all reaching very good peaks between 1315 and 1400. The star performer
of the morning waited until a sharp sunrise enhancement boost around 1400
to show up, though-- 738-BEL2, with its best signal of the entire season.
At my 1315 start time the NHK big guns were already on the warpath, with
594-JOAK and 693-JOAB hitting very good levels in and out. The Chinese
lessons on the other NHK2 stations (747, 774 and 828) were also at equal
strength, but suffering from the usual domestic splatter issues. 1566-HLAZ
was managing fair signals in and out, but other than this during the
predawn darkness it seemed like the morning would be strictly a Japanese
show. Around 1350 there was somewhat of a boost for the rest of Asia,
though, with 972-HLCA coming out of the noise to reach a good level, and
603, 657, 738, 1044 and 1593 all starting to manage threshold audio. Most
of these signals soon fizzled with the increasing daylight, but around 1403
the relatively obscure Taiwan station 738-BEL2 definitely got a boost,
reaching very good peaks with its usual hyped-up Chinese speech-- its best
signal since the season started in September. BEL2 had a weak mainland
Chinese co-channel as well during its peak moments, but the UnID Chinese
station soon faded. On the other hand BEL2 stuck around until 1425, in and
out of the noise with its Chinese female-announced news. Along with the
unusually strong NHK big guns on 594 and 693 it was one of the biggest
surprises of a productive morning-- almost seeming like something straight
out of October.
