The FCC history cards say KNZR was first licensed as experimental W6XAI on February 12, 1935 then changed to KPMC in November of 1936. W6XAI experimented with wide band high fidelity transmissions. 

As for WQEW I will defer to my friend Scott Fybush. I couldn't find the history cards where I usually find them in the FCC database. Maybe he knows where they are.
