[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 2-5

Hello All,

Asian results here were very similar to Dennis' report, with a few weather-related issues causing some additional intrigue.

The session started off at 1430 in the frozen (22 degree) back yard as 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA were the stars of the moment, with very good signals in and out of the domestic splatter (although VOA's anemic audio didn't match its strong carrier level, as Dennis reported). Nothing else on the high band seemed very impressive early on, and from 1430-1500 the low band featured only 594-JOAK (fair-good), 603-HLSA (fair) and a presumed 738-BEL2 (poor) rising out of the noise for brief periods. 972-HLCA had good audio in and out during the same period, but it didn't stick around for long when it faded in. A moderate sunrise enhancement kicked in around 1505, boosting 603-HLSA up to a steady fair level (with its Chinese co-channel showing up for a few seconds at a time) and giving 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA some additional energy. On the other hand the severe back yard cold was sapping the energy in the C.Crane SWP Ultralight, which shut down completely at 1512, frozen like a brick. The!
Experimental 12" FSL (composed mostly of old Communist Red Army ferrite) seemed to be right at home in the subfreezing cold, but the modified (and frozen) ICF-2010 spotting receiver's LED frequency display started missing some segments, and its TP carrier heterodynes starting sounding like something out of a Halloween movie. Rather than push my luck with this 30-year old classic receiver, I decided to get it (and myself) out of the 22 degree cold, and call it a session. Overall it wasn't very exciting, except maybe for the weather-related issues.
