The low band showed significant signs of life today, a bit of a change
from other recent days. Audio could be heard from many of the
regulars. There were also many carriers that almost produced audio: 648
738 819 864 1035 1053 1098 to name a few of the stronger ones. I'm sure
Gary would have had vibrant audio from many of them, had he ventured out
into the subfreezing weather.
Most of the action took place just after 1300 UT, which made me glad I
was using an SDR recording. There was very little, if anything, to be
heard after 1400.
Good - Mostly understandable by a native speaker
750 KFQD, atop Portland w/PSA, jingle ID, CBS news 1400
1566 HLAZ, signal peaking at about 1332 with man in Japanese, before
and after that it was fair-nil
Fair - Some of it was understandable
594 JOAK, time pips 1300, theme music, JJ talk
693 JOAB, time pips 1300, then weather report fading in and out
774 JOUB, end of English program 1259, pips at ToH, then weather
report. Local ID 1320, then start of English lesson
972 KBS, peaking at various times 1328-1406 with KK talk & sometimes
music
Poor - Everything else
747 JOIB, 1338 talk in 750 splatter
828 JOBB same thing as JOUB but not as good
981 CNR1 CC talk briefly 1351
1134 KBS time pips and KK talk 1300
1170 KBS, very faint pips during several-second pause in KPUG audio 1300
1206 Yanbian on 1205.96 with woman in KK, no pips at ToH 1300
1593 CNR1, bits of CC talk 1302 in the usual 1590 splatter
