Re: [IRCA] Broadband Cable Internet

Mike:

I wouldn't know about cable TV boxes. We have cable internet but not cable TV. Not paying $60/month for 200 channels of crap I don't watch anyway :P

I also don't have the cable company supplied modem. Well worth the $125 I paid to get a Motorola DOCSYS 3 modem from Best Buy rather than pay the $5/month for their POS made in Panda Armpit, China modem. When I still lived in an apartment I tracked down some nasty QRN coming from the downstairs neighbor's cheapo modem. Besides, if 30 Mbps gets too slow I'm ready to go for the 100 Mbps Service ;)

Still had to change the wall-wart on it since it sits about 3' from my radios.

I would also recommend that before you allow the installer to leave the
premises, you run through all the frequencies you intend to listen to and
make sure you don't have any noise issues anywhere. When Comcast installed
my internet and TV boxes, I had serious noise issues on my radio. Their
"expert" said it couldn't be because of their box because everything was
working. Their "expert" had never heard of a bad solder joint. Everything
had the conductivity it was supposed to, so it worked fine for his
purposes. It also radiated RF garbage in a 6-foot radius. He replaced the
box. I tested it. It worked. Don't let him leave without testing!
