I'm beginning to wonder about the "mid-September anomaly". The
various indices stayed low (barring a small burp in the solar wind
density), yet things were quite sparse and erratic, and signals were
generally weaker than they have been. Maybe the skip zone is part
way between China and Japan, hi.
All signal levels here are maximums rather than average; guaranteed
that if you tuned by a few minutes later, they'd be in the
mud. Oddly, one of the more consistent was 1476, consistently very
poor, but consistent. Something else of note was having a few
signals (774, 972, 1575) now remaining audible after 1400UT.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):
1287 faded up to this level at 1338 UT, with man and woman in JJ
1566 man in JJ at 1333UT, good on and off for a couple of minutes
reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
774 JOUB man in JJ 1340UT
972 HLCA man in KK 1337UT
1575 VoA man in SE Asian language (Khmer per schedule)
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be
understood by a native speaker:
1053 jammer appearing at 1345UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :
639 CNR-1 woman talking at 1340UT //6125
747 JOIB woman talking //774 at 1349UT
954 man talking at 1346UT; too murky for any guess at a language
1017 woman talking 1336UT not //774; CRI?
1242 JOLF, woman talking w/excited JJ cadence at 1357UT; hung in long
enough to hear the "cuckoo" pips at 1400UT
1323 woman talking, maybe RR cadence, at 1334UT; if so, CRI
1332 instrumental mx 1339UT; no idea
1476 unID. woman talking 1351UT; way too murky for any hope of
language ID; China has been noted here in the past, with an echo
Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
189 279 (maybe a man talking?) 945 891 1251
best wishes,
Nick
