Re: [IRCA] DU's for Monday July 23, 2012; Victoria loggings

Hi Bruce,

Thanks very much for your 1701 kHz UnID Aussie analysis.

Immediately after sending the message to Nick I checked the PAL listings for 1701 kHz (which I should have done right off the bat :-), and found details on the three flea-powered Aussies, including Voice of Charity. I'll attempt to contact some DXer friends in NZ and Australia who may be able to confirm the identity of the station by matching the voice on the MP3's recorded ID.

Of course there is a raft of other DU station mysteries from the recent Oregon Cliff trip, several of which could certainly be clarified by expert information from you and Chuck. The plan is to post about 5 of these mystery MP3's soon.

73 and Thanks,
Gary

Gary

As far as I know, there are three Aussies on 1701.  O nly one carries religious programs -  the Vo ice of Ch arity, a Lebanese Ch ristian station in Sydney.  They have a website www.voc.org.au/    A nice catch if that's what yu had.

Hi Nick,

<<<   1701 maybe two stations at 1226UT, mx and non-EE talk, but no
idea what, because as always, quite weak.   >>>

During the recent ocean cliff DXpedition I made a serious effort to go
after these 400 watt X-band Aussies, but since the propagation favored
New Zealand almost every day, the only modest accomplishment was
on this 1701 kHz frequency.

I was able to record a marginal ID of sorts at 1240 UTC on 7-21 from an
apparent Christian station on 1701 kHz, although the signal level was
pretty shaky. In the linked MP3, low-level preaching of some sort
apparently continues (just above the noise level) until about 21
seconds into the recording, when a man suddenly pops out of the noise
with an apparent ID sounding like "You're listening to J.R. (something
mumbled), the Christian Way." Of course, my analysis is not guaranteed
:-)

I have no idea whether this station is one of the two that you've been
hearing in Victoria, and probably the only way to confirm the identity
of this flea-powered 1701kHz Aussie is to track down a DXer in eastern
Australia who is willing to listen on the frequency, and match voice
identification with the IID on the recording.

Yes, it was fairly good here too Dennis, but mostly above 1500 kHz,
with rarely readable audio, though more audio than I've been used to,
and peaking between  1220 and 1235UTC.

738 only audio heard here was very weak, FF inflected talk 1100 UT

1314 man talking 1229UT, but very weak

1503 mx, talk at various times, good carrier but nearly unreadable
audio.

1575 hints of talk 1220-1225UT

1611 suddenly heard quite clearly (though weakly) man saying "you and
I are able to see" at 1222UT; maybe preaching of some kind? but
mostly unreadable

1629 man talking in some Latin language, maybe one of the
Italians?  Again mostly unreadable, though fairly consistent up and
down through the 1220-1240UT period

1701 maybe two stations at 1226UT, mx and non-EE talk, but no idea
what, because as always, quite weak.

best wishes,

Nick

Check out Gary's You Tube video, very interesting and well done.

738      TAHITI, RF 1228 fair signal with woman in French. Heavy
KCBS splatter.
                         Het still around at 1304.
1503     AUSTRALIA? 1251-1253 as conditions leave threshold audio on
this channel.
Poor signal at 1258 with Palstar MW550P
tuned to channel.
1584     AUSTRALIA, 1235 woman in DU accented English reading news?
Man also speaking.

                    fair signal at times.
1665     AUSTRALIA, 1238 weak signal with man speaking in English?
Music at 1241 with
fair signal.  1243 back to weak signal with man
talking in ?
                    Guessing, Vision Radio Network?
1701     AUSTRALIA? Strong het level 5 this morning.  Still around
at 1256.  No chance
                    with Mexican station on 1700.
