Hi Nick,
I've always used Admin access on my PCs and consider it to be more secure
that way as I have access to more options (such as setting timers for
anti-virus scans).
Over the years I've used both Avast! and AVG free versions, and although
they are very good for zero cost, a couple years ago I purchased ESET Nod32
Antivirus and have been extremely happy with it.
I first read glowing comments about ESET Nod32 from European DXers on the
Perseus Yahoogroup. I find it works very smoothly and rarely needs any
attention. Here's a review of version 4.2:

One thing I like about this software is that it has minimal impact on PC
performance. In tests with the PCmark benchmarking utility, ESET Nod32 only
slows down the computer by 3%. Most anti-virus programs take a 10% hit on
performance.
