Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-7

Hi Derek,

Thanks for your interest in the new FSL antenna design. There isn't yet
a video describing how to build one of these weird ferrite-based
antennas, although hometown DXing buddy Guy Atkins did shoot and post a
demonstration video of the 8" Medium Wave FSL's performance shortly
before I took it up to the 400' ocean side cliff in Oregon this summer
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WUUlMgK0qI

I'm scrambling to complete assembly instructions for a 7" diameter
"Affordable" Medium Wave FSL (designed to be constructed for under $150
in component cost), although the sellers of Russian surplus ferrite on
eBay are always trying to get more rubles for their rods, and securing
the large collection of ferrite rods at a reasonable price is always
the major challenge in completing an FSL construction project. The FSL
antenna does have a figure-8 reception pattern, which might be more
useful in chasing TP's on the west coast than chasing TA's in the
Northeast (a design photo of the 7" diameter "Affordable" MW FSL model
is posted at http://www.mediafire.com/i/?lq2ummbunzz5p3s )

Is there a how to video to build this??
Is the pattern figure 8???

and 6'
sided PVC-frame tuned passive (air-core) loops here, and has
outperformed them
both in weak-signal DX reception. Its reception advantage is almost
entirely
based on lower noise pickup, though, and not based on superior signal
strength.
When the large ring of ferrites collectively receives a weak DX signal
it can
almost always receive it with lower noise pickup than the large
air-core loops
seem to mix in, resulting in a better S/N ratio. The FSL antennas are
also
compact enough to set up easily on high cliff-top sites near ocean
beaches, and
since they look something like a Gatling Gun, strangers usually stay
far away
from you at 0400 local time.
