Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-7

Hi Derek,

Thanks for your question about the 8" FSL antenna.

This MW-design 8" FSL has been directly tested against full-sized 4' and 6' sided PVC-frame tuned passive (air-core) loops here, and has outperformed them both in weak-signal DX reception. Its reception advantage is almost entirely based on lower noise pickup, though, and not based on superior signal strength. When the large ring of ferrites collectively receives a weak DX signal it can almost always receive it with lower noise pickup than the large air-core loops seem to mix in, resulting in a better S/N ratio. The FSL antennas are also compact enough to set up easily on high cliff-top sites near ocean beaches, and since they look something like a Gatling Gun, strangers usually stay far away from you at 0400 local time.

73, Gary

That ferrite loop is pure magic. Is it out performing the monster wire loops?

Hello All,

The 5 Radio Rossii Longwave TP's were back with good strength, but 164
and 209 kHz both stayed at threshold audio again. On medium wave it
was
a good morning here for Asiatic TP's in general, with 936-Anhui having
its first decent Chinese audio for the new season. 657-Pyongyang's
Korean-language tirades were up in strength (unfortunately), and
738-BEL2 in Taiwan also made a fair appearance. As usual, the
Asian-mainland-oriented propagation of this DXing location seems to be
coming into play again this new season, in comparison to Dennis'
numerous loggings from Japan (many of which didn't produce a trace
here
this morning). DXing with a barefoot Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight and 8"
