Although we're going way off of the other "off topic" topic, a co-worker
bemoaned the FCC relaxing ownership rules. He said that one larger town
in the Northern Plains has all of the major FM stations owned by the
same firm. They did not have any kind of plan to relay NWS weather
warnings and when a big storm hit, the music and syndicated talk just
kept right on playing. Of course I can't confirm this hearsay info but
it sure sounds about right!

Sadly, AM radio is one of the worst places to try and get current local
information in the Memphis area. Most of the stations have no local news
department, and those who do pretty much work 9 to 5 and go home. After
that it's either what they recorded during the day or what the sat feed
gives them. Radios like the CC Crane models that could pick up TV audio
used to be good for severe weather and the like, but thanks to the
digital sift (Progress? Yeah, right. Don't get me started on that), that
option has also been eliminated.

We lost power for about a day recently due to the big storm that
ripped through the Southeast.
My wife was bemoaning the loss of TV or internet - - as she could not
get up to date info on weather, road conditions, etc.
I handed her a square black box (DX-375) and said....'remember
this...it's called a radio.'
I thought it was interesting that radio never even crossed her mind.
