We have, like 5-8 inches in Toronto. And that's more than at Burnt River, 100 miles n.e. of here. Go figger...

The explanation I have heard - and it seems to make some sense - is that the melting of the polar ice caps has freed up more moisture that gets carried south and deposited as snow.

About a foot or so here in Rochester today, thankfully all very light fluffy stuff that was easy to shovel. The news tonight reported 63" for the season so far, against an average of 39".
