Hello All,
Asiatic propagation in general took a dive this morning compared with
yesterday's diverse results, but freakishly strong propagation was back
again for a select few Japanese stations. Whereas Chinese, Russian and Korean
signals were down considerably from yesterday, 594-JOAK got a legendary
signal boost around 1400, producing the strongest TP signal ever received
here in Puyallup. 585-JOPG and 666-JOBK also received a bizarre signal boost,
but the other Japanese didn't seem to join in the bonanza. 828-JOBB got no
boost at all, and 1134-JOQR was down in the noise.
Hoping for a repeat of the exceptional Japanese-slanted propagation
observed two days ago, I checked 738 kHz for the mysterious Japanese
station, but found only a weakened BEL2 in Taiwan. 639-CNR1, 648-VOR and
657-Pyongyang were also around, but pretty anemic. A presumed 936-Anhui was in and
out of audio, compared to yesterday's vibrant signal. After searching the
entire band for a way to take advantage of the strange Japanese propagation,
it became clear that only 594-JOAK and a couple of other stations were
getting the bizarre signal boost. 594-NHK1 was truly exceptional, though,
sounding like a local Puget Sound pest at 1403:

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop:
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan NHK1 signals boosted up to very good
strength by freakish propagation around 1405; best ever heard
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Huge signal during Japanese weather
report at 1358 during bizarre propagation; this recording was
made 5 minutes before the 1403 crime report (linked above)

603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea (presumed) Weak music 1351
639 CNR1 China Synchros Mediocre Chinese speech around 1355
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Fair strength Japanese speech at
1408 during external program; typical of non-Japanese strength

657 Pyongyang BS, N. Korea Psychotic shouts reduced to faint
whimpers by the propagation filter
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan The third NHK1 signal boosted by weird
propagation; strong Japanese talk around 1401
675 VOV Hanoi, Vietnam (presumed) Threshold audio at 1344
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan All alone on frequency with modest
level Chinese speech late at 1421: no sign of Japanese or HLKG

747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan No stronger than usual in KXL slop 1405
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Barely audible under oppressive KTTH slop
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Another NHK2 signal not favored by the
weird propagation; fair signals only at 1406
936 Anhui, China (presumed) In and out of audio with music at 1409
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Poor-fair Korean speech around 1353
1053 Korean Jammer Barely audible at 1348, but nothing else on
the frequency either
1134 TP-Mix At least two Asian stations in a mediocre mix around
1357, managing only to drown each other out (likely KBS-JOQR)
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Weaker than usual with threshold audio
only around 1335
73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
