Hello All,
Before 1400 it appeared that this morning's Asian propagation would
be very disappointing, with both the low and high band equally mediocre.
Like Bruce, though, I noticed a weird propagation boost around 1410, which
boosted up the Japanese low-band "big guns" to a freakishly strong level.
Around 1411 the signal of 594-JOAK became almost legendary, the strongest it
had ever been received this season. 666-JOBK also received a turbo boost, but
the other low-band "big guns" from Korea and China didn't get anywhere
near the same benefit. 639-CNR1 and 657-Pyongyang did have their signals
boosted up to a fair level around 1415, in comparison to their weak carriers
prior to that. Around the same time 738-Taiwan also came out of the noise, as
did 936-Anhui.
Whereas Bruce concentrated on the high band I was fascinated by the
low band signal boost, which was one of the strangest TP propagation changes
so far this season. I did check several high-band "big guns" after 1417
and noticed the same signal boost that Bruce and Walt enjoyed, but since the
mediocre Puyallup version of sunrise enhancement only lasted until about
1423 this morning, the DXing fun was over about the same time that the TP's
finally came alive. Overall, it certainly wasn't one of the season's better
TP sessions, but probably one of the most bizarre. Judging from the time
that the TP propagation got its sudden boost here, Nick probably chose the
ideal time (1410) to start listening this morning.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick), inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the rainy
back yard). A modified Sony ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB
spotting receiver.
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan Signals boosted to fair audio around 1410
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Strongest signal of the season at 1411, in
comparison to comatose signal prior to weird propagation boost
