Thanks for the link Dennis and the original post, Bruce. Interesting.
It sounds like the only thing that he did wrong, if I'm reading it
right, is that he grounded the transmitter to the tower via an
unshielded cable which must have made the entire tower a radiator(?).
Is that right? His website does mention 100 mw of power, which in
itself is legal. Based upon the figures in the FCC report, could those
figures really come from a 100mw transmitter?
I'm not sure if any of you are NASCAR fans but (AT LEAST TO ME) the FCC
seems to use similar tactics. Coddle the big boys and hassle the small
time operators. It really sounds (again to me) as if he just was in
error and not intentionally trying to be a pirate / break the law. He
even advertised his station in his town's paper! Yes, he would have
been better with LPFM but even then he'd probably have to pay big bucks
to get it engineered correctly. Getting a station on the air is not a
cheap or easy proposition!
I'll have to keep an eye on this.
73,
Dave in Indy - glad that he doesn't have a 100 mw radio station, the FCC
might visit! :)
