[IRCA] Kona TP for 8 Nov 2009

Listened from 1600 to 1615 with the E1 and ALA100M

dial was pretty light up but not what I would consider
a spectacular morning - the DUs were somewhat subdued
with JJ and KK stations dominating the lower bands.

>From memory (just starting to write stuff down now...)

531 - jumble with nothing dominating -- actual station on 530 but no idea who (Hawaiian TIS?)
540 - absence of Samoa at this hour (which rules the entire evening...) and a mix
of CC soundind stuff
548 - just a big het against the local 550
558, 567 JJ
576 - thinks Russia by the content (279 was solid all evening from about 0700UTC on)
594 - noted the absence of JJ here and a muddle of other stuff
603 - KK sounding programming similar to what we hear on the WC Mainland
612 - noted absence of anything unusual in the wake of semi-local 620
639 - nothing dominating w/ grinding het fro EE (either AK or CAL on 640)
650 - KORL all the time
657 - Monster sized DPRK // 3220
666 - jumble
675 - murmurs what might have been Vietnam
690 - semi-local
693 - probably the JJ pushing its way past the QRM
702 - jumble
720 - semi-local
729 - jumble against 730-Vancouve
738- Tahiti dominating the evening drops down or shuts off to reveal Asian
free-for-all mostly CC sounding
747 - Japan
756 - muddle
774 - mix of stuff struggling against 770 Island station
810 - Jumble
828 - noted lack of JJ
846 - Island something or other all evening
855 - channel of growls (KK most likely...)
891 - mix
glossed up to around 963 and noted mix of CRI
972 - Korean mammoth signal only bested at this hour by 657 DPRK

Above here a mix of EE and Asian stuff starts to duke it out.
Will do a better upper band tomorrow morning.

What is interesting is that there are so many 9 channels with
a really gritty mix of stuff going on - and then there are the
channels where one Asian station utterly rules - kind
of like North American clear channels - most notable above 1100 khz
and really noticeable above 1200.

Examples: 1278, 1287, 1314, 1440 are channels with anchors on them...
frequencies like 1548, 1557, 1566, 1575, 1593 are likely to have what you
would expect to hear on them -- like Aus, Korea, Thailand and China --
but not always... 1575 today had Thailand with VOA type stuff on it --
but underneath that was EE programming with an Asian slant -- and
they were close to being equal.

And so it goes.

More this evening.
