The numbers I use up to 5 are the level of the tone on my receiver when in the
cw mode. A level 5 through 1 are no audio. Level 6 would be weak audio. Level
7 fair, 8 good 9 Excellent and 10 I'm lying. 5 would be close to audio.
4,3,2,1, would be lower levels of tone. The stronger the signal the louder
the tone. Sometimes I list the carrier strength in S units, but I always list it
as S-9+10db or S-4 etc. The JRC NRD is the only receiver that I have that gives
off a nice pitch tone and it easy to pick up the weak carriers. My R8B does not
have this pitch tone on CW mode.
