Fired up the radio just before 1400, and was not initially impressed, as even the Japanese big guns were down, and nothing much in their place. But, by 1410, I had realized that sometimes you need to choose your antenna, because there were two stations on 1575, VoA-Thailand on the westerly Flag, but Farda-UAE on the northerly one. A short while later another UAE was ID'd using the webstream, in the form of VOA Radio Aap Ki Dunyaa on 1539. Both have been heard in the evening here, but it was during the big opening last January. Didn't find any other trans-Arctics, but must admit to a certain disorganization in my hunt strategy at that point. But, CNR-1 was noted about the same time on 1134, and if that really is in western China, it's pushing trans-Arctic.
Later, I did notice the CC on 648 mentioned by Gary. I wonder if this is a service that has just started (again)? Couldn't find a VoR parallel on SW for it though. Definitely, there was a pre-sunrise lift, that lasted after sunrise this morning, although I can't say there were earth shattering signal strengths here. (I think that a couple of days ago, strengths were better, in fact my recording software agrees)

The following schedule for Voice of Russia Chinese service appeared in
DX Listeners Digest recently:

The times are apparently those of China, so they would be 1000-1400 UT.
This is the B09 schedule, which took effect in late October, just in time to not be included in the current PAL :(
This is likely what you and Gary heard. It may also explain why VOA no longer uses this freq during the local evening there.
