[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-6... Sizzler
Hello All,
For most of November the sunrise enhancements have been disappointing, but
the TP's certainly came alive this morning. The band was practically back
to mid-October levels, with even the typically non-productive frequencies
joining in the propagation bonanza. Even though I was outside and couldn't
act on Nick's tip about the U.A.E. receptions, there was more than enough DX
to go around.
The first odd discovery was a booming signal on 648 kHz at 1435, the first
time that 648 has had a strong TP since Bruce's report about VOR's possible
absence. The program was western-type music with Mandarin Chinese
announcers, and the station's power certainly was like the 648-VOR of last season.
Did anyone else notice this? Until this morning, 648's carrier had been
weak all season.
684 khz, another typically non-productive frequency, was booming in at 1443
with an elderly-voiced Mandarin Chinese announcer. I was making a nice
recording of this 684 signal until somebody (apparently 670-KBOI) turned on
their IBOC at 1445, ruining the frequency.
594 khz had a weakened JOAK for most of the morning, but neither the UnID
Chinese or KBS1 music station were serious competition (although both
popped in occasionally). The frequency was usually a weak mix of low-level TP's.
585 kHz was also non-productive, with only a weak JOPG, and no UnID
Chinese co-channel that was heard in late October.
891 had two TP's mixing at a nice level around 1505, apparently Thailand
and NHK1. The band was still going strong at this time, which was a first for
November's propagation. Finally, 1116 kHz had a co-channel with music
under the usual Mandarin Chinese station around 1511, for another late
surprise. No idea who it was, but the recording may have some clues.
Hope that you all had as much fun as me this morning!
