[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 9-26... Ultralight TP #90

Hello All,

With finally some time to really chase TP's this morning, the 5.5' PVC loop
was set up in my back yard, and ready to go at 1300. Away from the house
wiring and RF pollution, the TP's did indeed have better strength, and the
nulls of domestic stations seemed deeper (compared to the 36" bedside model).

A presumed 891-Radio Thailand had been received here mixing with NHK1 for
several mornings this week, but this morning at 1334 it was clearly dominant
on the frequency, strong enough for language recognition (and an MP3).
This was Ultralight TP #90 here, which although not as strong as VOA's
mega-station on 1575, is still one of the stronger Thailand AM transmitters. It
had a nice signal on the C.Crane SWP Slider, inductively coupled to the 5.5'
PVC loop. New Ultralight TP loggings are getting tougher to find in
Puyallup, especially after 70 of them were logged on a stand-alone Slider E100
last year.

603-HLSA was very strong at 1347 over the UnID Mandarin Chinese station, a
reversal of the situation the past few days. The Chinese college student
(Jacey Wang) who has translated many UnID Chinese MP3's for our TP-chasing
group will receive another one of the 603 kHz station, which has puzzled
Derek Vincent and me for some time.

The PVC loop showed promise in nulling out many domestic stations to search
for weak TP co-channels, but after setting up the deep null on the pests,
the TP's didn't always cooperate with strong signals :-) Unlike the 9
kHz-split frequencies away from the domestics, the ICF-2010 carrier strength
check doesn't mean much on the domestic frequencies, because it's hard to
tell whether the carrier is coming from the domestic pest, or the TP. The
sunrise enhancement here in Puyallup is much shorter than in Grayland (usually
only about 15 minutes), so it's always a scramble to use the time
productively in chasing new TP loggings.

I'm glad that Walt, Colin and Bruce had fun this morning. Conditions here
seemed as good as yesterday, perhaps because of the superior loop antenna
being used.
