[IRCA] Quantum Loop and the Crate Loop

Hi all:

A snow storm here in the Seattle area knocked KOMO-1000 off for about 20
minutes, and I managed to nab two new ones on a channel I would never
otherwise have a prayer on (KOMO's 50,000 watts are beamed straight at me
from 11 miles away - makes my teeth tingle).
 - ESPN Radio, which has to be Chicago
 - The American Gospel Countdown, which 38 watt KKIM-Albequerque was
streaming at the time as well.

What made these two catches possible was the Crate Loop. I had the Yaesu
FRG-100B and the Quantum Loop running at the time, and there was only
gentle mumbling, whereas with the Crate Loop 6 inches away from the
Quantum Loop as a passive augment, I got good copy on both stations. As
with the Eton e100 Slider, the Crate Loop gives the Quantum Loop 15-20
decibels more gain up and down the band, which makes sense given that the
Slider and the Quantum Loop both have 8" ferrite antennae.
