[IRCA] Bad news for Blue Jays fans

from MilkmanUnlimited.com:

Hamilton’s All New Talk Station TALK 820 is proud to announce that
they are the new radio broadcast home of the Toronto Blue Jays. TALK
820 will begin airing the Toronto Blue Jays 2009 Spring Training
weekend schedule as of February 28, 2009. The 2009 regular season
home opener is set for Monday, April 6, 2009 when the Jays play host
to the Detroit Tigers from the Rogers Centre.

Why "bad news"?

Because the Jays' Toronto flagship, CJCL 590, is a very directional signal aiming north from the south shore of Lake Ontario, so if you don't live in or due north of the Toronto, you don't hear them on the flagship.

That, in turn, left CHML 900 from Hamilton, with its broad signal blanketing much of the northeastern US, as the best (and usually only) way to hear Jays games stateside. (The Red Sox are in a similar situation - flagship WRKO doesn't go west at all, so we expatriate Sox fans have learned to tune in WTIC from Hartford instead.)

But with CHAM replacing CHML, that goes away - CHAM aims north from its directional array south of Hamilton, and doesn't put much signal into the US at all.

It's been a bad few years for fans of baseball on clear-channel AM: no Twins on WCCO, no Orioles on WBAL, no Cards on KMOX, no Pirates on KDKA, now no Jays on CHML. OK, so we now have the Nats on WFED, but they're the Nats...
