I agree, but those maps are rather hard to read sometimes.
The solar indices are gathered retroactively covering various periods. The K index is more sensitive than the A index, and often rises first.
Because of the way the A is compiled, it takes a few 3-hour periods of activity of the K before it shows up in the A.
The key items on the regular reports Craig has set up to post here however are the two which describe current conditions, and the 3-hour K indices. The latter are often indicative of upward or downward trends.
