It's the ether, Colin!  Seriously, though, I have a lot more trouble with 531 than you do.  When you were hearing Cuba the other night, all I could hear was the TIS in Olympic National Park on any of my antennae....and you know I have quite a few to choose from.  1566 is always a good one for me.  I usually get great modulation, to be honest, and haven't noticed them being down that way, at least not for the past few weeks.  Is it your antenna?  I know the ALA is a hot performer on LW and the lower MW band, so perhaps that's it.  Mine seem to favour a little higher. ....Walt.
