Re: [IRCA] 2008 Fall Follies Ultralight MW DX Contests Announced

Thanks for the update, John!

Looking forward to the new contest! During last years "Sprint," I
managed to add two new ones to my log even with sub-par DX conditions
(and I had lotsa fun, too).

PS: I will mention this on WTFDA's AM mailing list dh

The 2008 "Fall Follies" Ultralight MW DX Contest
October 24 to November 3, 2008

Back by popular demand! With a new contest added to the mix and the
rules refined from suggestions of the pioneer participants in the
Spring Sprint, the 2008 Fall Follies Ultralight MW DX will take place
between 30 minutes before local sunset on Friday, October 24 through
30 minutes after local sunrise on Monday, November 3, 2008.

Participants may choose to enter using one of two 2 classes of
recognized Ultralight radios in any or all of three contests: total
number of stations heard in a aggregate four hours of total
listening, the top 5 DX stations (aggregate distance) heard the
United States and Canada (or United States and Mexico), and the top 5
DX stations heard worldwide. Participants in the Total Stations
Heard contest choose a total of four hours listening time between the
above dates, while participants entering either of the top 5 DX
stations aggregate distance contests are free to DX as little or as
much as they wish within the overall time constraints of the contest.

The primary purpose of this event is not to establish winning scores,
but to foster camaraderie among participants and to demonstrate that
enjoyment can be had in our chosen hobby with minimalist equipment,
at very low cost, requiring only a willingness to sit at the dials.
Each participant will receive a certificate and high scores will be
recognized.

Mark your calendars now! Rules, entry requirements, FAQs, and contact
information will be announced on October 1st on the club chat groups,
dxer.ca and the ultralightdx yahoo group.

The definitions of the two classes of radios, Barefoot and Unlimited,
will remain the same. However, several new radios have been
recognized by the Ultralight Definitions Committee and have been
evaluated in the Summer 2008 Shootout and updated Ultralight Gallery,
both of which are currently available in the Ultralight Files section
of dxer.ca

School has started, frost is already on the punkin' in northerly
climes and the Fall DX Season is well underway. If you are interested
in entering the contest with an Unlimited Class radio, its time to
heat up the soldering iron. If Barefoot is your thing, its darn sure
time to polish up your memory of the band and your "safe-crackers'
hands" for tuning.

LATE OCTOBER WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!
