[IRCA] FCC 07-33 IBOC
Document FCC-07-33A1.pdf is a good (lengthy) read for any one interested in
educatiing themselves regarding IBOC, rules, and the goals/positions of the
FCC for DAB. Apparently, the FCC wants all terrestrial broadcast radio (AM
and FM) to transition to digital eventually. The FCC claims it wants market
forces to dictate the pace of the conversion. However, there doesn't seem to
be a need for the conversion. The average American will only tune in
terrestrial radio while they're in their cars and not on their cell phones,
playing CDs, or listening to their iPods or Satellite receivers. While at
home, Cable TV, Wii and PS3 systems can easily take up time. Also, internet
radio is a great way to get better audio than off the airwaves especially at
night with all the IBOC jamming. Also, IBOC text streaming across the radio
dial will cause distractions while driving. You could be reading about the
pileup you caused by reading the traffic report on your radio dial!
Reading it killed the greater part of today (it's cloudy and raining outside
anway). I feel better after reading it and even saw several of your names on
Page 56! Just trying to come up to speed on what's happening to AM DXing,
also with SWBC and DRM. Too many changes!
