Re: [IRCA] Perseus Vs. RF Space SDR-IQ

I'm an owner of the RF Space SDR-IQ, and have been very impressed with it's capabilities. It easily compares to any high end MW receiver that I've ever owned including the Drake R8B and AOR 7030.

Been following the news of the Perseus, and would love to hear more about the "MW Splatter Rejection" feature. What is it? How well does it work?

Also, I'd love to hear someone compare the SDR-IQ with the Perseus in regards to MW DXing...

Hi Walt,

I was surprised to read that you think the activation of the MW Splatter
Rejection in Perseus takes too long. I think it
is easy and quick, but I'm still trying to find a case where it works
really well on TPs (I'm using IQ-WAV files of this
spring's DXpeditions to test it). So far the best results have been on
splatter covered domestics 10 kHz away from
local powerhouses.

The DSP filters of the receiver are amazing at around 1 to 1.1 or better
SF, but many TPs 1 or 2 kHz from domestics
are still in the "splatter zone" no matter what filter or PBT offset you
try. Evidently, multipath fading of the
splattering station is main reason for poor results.

Contact me off list if you want to talk about the details of this
interesting new feature in Perseus.

738: Nice audio....For a change!!!! It's RFO in French at 11:58.
Actually at least a 7. Good modulation for a
change! Close to an 8 by 11:59. I actually used the splat rejection on
Perseus to good effect, although nothing I
couldn't do with LSB or PBT. Nice to see that it worked. Sure wish it was
automatic, though. During the hot and
heavy DX sessions at dawn, there simply isn't time. I can see it handy
though when trying to tease out every last
little bit of intelligebility.
