Around 1995-1996, the US Army tested a transmitter on 1670 kHz, KTRK
from Fort Mead, MD. The signal was quite loud East of the
Mississippi and beyond. Rumor had that the transmitter was mounted
on the back of an Army truck (hence Kay-Truck) and later deployed to
Bosnia I believe.

I have a bunch of tape of that 1670 station - the signal banged into Boston, where I was living at the time.

The "KTRK" ID went away after a few days of the tests, when someone realized it was the legal callsign of a TV station in Texas. The next call, for a day or two, was ARMY - until someone realized "AR" isn't part of the US callsign block. I believe the call used for the last few days of testing was ABS.

It was definitely a truck-mounted transmitter (and studio, too!), and I believe it did in fact go on to Bosnia after that.
