[IRCA] New Ultralight Firsts and Records Announced

Its been a month since I've updated the List of Ultralight Firsts and Records and there has been quite a bit of activity, including at long last, some work from the Pacific Northwest. The new Firsts from Asian countries were all snagged by our compatriots in the NW:

First Station in North Korea
Gary DeBock, Grayland, WA Pyongyang BS-657 Kangnam 3/14/2008 (**SRF-39FP**)
First Station in China
Gary DeBock, Grayland, WA CRI Russian Svc.-963, Unk. Loc 3/14/2008 (**SRF-39FP**)
First Station in Thailand
Dennis Vroom, Salmon Creek, WA VOA-1575, Ban Rasom 3/16/2008 (**SRF-39FP**)

Dennis Vroom's great reception of VOA-Thailand was achieved by inductively coupling his EWE to an otherwise barefoot SRF-39FP... he held the receiver against the down leg of the EWE and there it was, a new Ultralight country and a new overall ultralight distance record of 11721 km/7283 miles!!!!

Allen Willie and his best radio buddy, Lorne Harnum, also of St. Johns, have continued to snag Country Firsts in both Africa and Europe:
First Station in Egypt
             Lorne Harnum, St. John's, NF ERTU-819 Batra, 2/29/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in Benin
Allen Willie, St. John's, NF TWR-1566, Parakou 3/13/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in the Netherlands
Allen Willie, St. John's, NF R. Maria-675 Lopik 2/20/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in the Faroe Islands
Allen Willie, St. John's, NF Utvarp Foroya-531 Akraberg 2/22/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in Corsica
Lorne Harnum, St. John's, NF R. Bleue relay-1494 2/29/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in Greece
Lorne Harnum, St. John's, NF ERA Sport-981, Athens 2/29/2008 (SRF-37V)
First Station in Cyprus
Allen Willie, St. John's, NF BBC-1323 via Zygi 3/12/2008 (SRF-37V)

Finally, Allen also managed to wipe out Rob Ross' distance record for the American Graveyard Channels: 1427 km/866 miles Allen Willie, St. John's, NF WBAE-1490 Portland, ME 2/20/2008 (SRF-M37V)

Well, that is it for this month. With equinox upon us, surely we'll see quite a few distance records fall in the next month. I happen to know that Walt Salmaniw is spending an extended Easter holiday at his cottage in the fabled Queen Charlotte Islands. I really hope that he took a couple of ultralights along with his new Perseus SDR! Time will tell....

The entire updated Firsts and Records List will be uploaded to the Ultralight Files area of dxer.ca in a few minutes.
