Re: [IRCA] Ultralight DXpeditions...Freedom and Fun + E100 Comments

.Hey, Gary!

Great quicky DXpedition to Grayland. They gave you Room 15 at The Motel
because that is the DXers room... "DX Central." headquarters for almost
all of the multi-DXer Grayland DXpeditions since the Spring of 1990. If
the walls could talk!!!

Good going on the loggings.... PLease do submit for the "Firsts" part of
the list.... I'm at the grandkids in Ft. Worth without the computer, so I
can't check, but I think that you scored two Firsts. Sorry that you missed
VOA THailand. I can't imagine that it will be unlogged in ten weeks when
Linda and I get back out there.... But maybe I'll have a shot at a DU
record, or something.

I bought the Eton E100 today at circuit city.... got them on sale on the
internet for well under $50 but "store pick-up only." They sure did pack
a lot of capability into a tiny box. Surprisingly good audio outta the
speaker, too. I was pleasantly surprised with the one kHz fine tuning...
it is continuous. That is, it is "really" a main tuning knob, just with a
quite low tuning rate. You can go from top to bottom of the dial using
that one knob. I had assumed from comments on line that it was limited to
tuning a 10 kHz. segment, one kHz. at a time.

With the 200 memories and i kHz. resolution, I gotta tell you that it
really doesn't seem like an ultralight to me... I know that it is... it
meets the criteria... but it sure seems more of a DXers radio not an
"entertainment radio for the general public." Still, if one is gonna DX
with one of these puppies, the E100 ought to cover the most situations and
the most band width with the least effort... for sure. I really like the
thing, actually.

I gotta say, tho' that it is NOT a shirtpocket radio... soince it has a
built-in desk stand like a real radio..

Gotta paraphrase my fellow Okie, Will Rogers: "I never met a radio that I
did not like!"

Gary, don't forget to file for those Firsts!

John B.
