Indeed - I have heard of folks who test longwires, BOG's and such that
they have a tremendous effect even if not connected to a radio. After
erecting a BOG, for instance, one will do a bandscan with just a
portable with its internal antenna. If the BOG is not shunted at both
ends, it will add some signal to the barefoot radio. So what Craig is
experienced with a transmitter's tower would most likely have a similar
effect, as I understand it.

Craig,
With my antenna, I can drive into the driveway and even though the
antennas are 50-75 feet away, they radiate. The stations on the car
radio generally get stronger, especially the ones to the East.
