This is sooo transparent !
Satellite has niche content. Satellite has pre-empted many possible FM
HD-2 format deployments. HD isn't penetrating the market.
So now they want to mandate HD on satellite - the only levelling of the
playing field here is in iBiquity's favor because they have seriously
misjudged just about everything in this misadventure of theirs.
It also shows they've learned nothing at all from their dubious
experience about propagation. Satellite already has some challenges
there, and overlaying HD would only make them worse.
What's also laughable is that they've obviously also learned nothing
about the market economics at play. We have to overlapping and
underperforming satellite services trying to merge, so now we'll toss
in some difficult and very expensive platform changes, and at the same
time render all existing satellite receivers obsolete.
It's about time for iBiquity to stand or fail on its own - if they hang
by their own petard, then so be it.
