[IRCA] The Ultralight DX Boom Has Begun... Get in on the Fun!

Hello All,

Christmas is a great time of the year to buy a nice present... for
yourself!

Technological innovation and competition have completely transformed
the humble pocket radio. Once the domain of stripped-down, image and
birdie-infested toys, today the new generation of pocket radios feature highly
sophisticated and innovative IC's, digital tuning convenience with memories,
FM-stereo sections with astonishing audio quality, and sensitivity rivaling most
traditional DX portables.

You don't need thousands of dollars or big antennas... just some spare
change, and a little spare time. You can go for the superb Sony SRF-59
AM-FM-stereo analog unit, an astonishing $16 radio which has received multiple TP's
here on the west coast. Or, if you prefer digital tuning convenience with
memories, the SRF-M37V at $35 has also proven it can receive across the "big
pond," by two different DXers. The Sangean DT-200VX is a great choice for
domestic DXers, with digital tuning, 19 memories on AM, and a fantastically
sensitive FM-stereo receiver, setting you back only $50. The upcoming "Shootout"
review (soon to be published in DXM) has full details on all these
innovative little radios, sure to put a spark of fun in your Christmas leisure time.
So go ahead and take the plunge. But be forewarned: once you receive a TP
or TA on one of these tiny wonders, you may never be the same again!

73 and Best Wishes to All,

            Gary DeBock.
