Re: [IRCA] TP's on Pocket Radios

Dennis,

You have some really good ideas about TP- DX on pocket radios, and I'm
sure that when conditions improve, you and I (and hopefully others) will have
a lot of fun with these thrilling contacts.

I agree with you that a TP has to be about an "8" level (on the R8 with
QL antenna) before the SRF-59 has a decent chance to receive it. My own
opinion is that a fully TP-capable "spotting receiver" really increases your
chances of success, especially when propagation is excellent. When the TP
really booms in on the spotting receiver, you can get it fairly easily on the
SRF-59 (if your analog tuning is correct). Since I grew up with touchy analog
tuners, maybe the 59's thumb wheel reminds me of my teenage years, hi. For me,
it's just part of the charm (and challenge) of pocket radio TP- DX.

Your idea of making a recording of these contacts (and sending for a
QSL card) is also great. Those QSL's would really be something special,
wouldn't they? Good luck in the morning...

                    73, Gary
