As Dennis mentioned, there was a small contingent at Grayland last
night. I returned home today, whiel Chuck and Tom are there through
tomorrow AM.
Not only did we have hail and and lightning storm, but our northwest
wire refused to work, even after the matching transformer was replaced.
As a result, we DXed Asians on Dennis' DU wire (maybe 700 feet at 250
degrees or so). Despite the handicap, conditions were consistent with
what others reported in earlier e-mails.
Below 620 things were better than average with nice signals from Japan
on 558 567 & 594
620-900 was about normal, with something present on nearly every 9 kHz
channel at one time or another. The high powered NHK2 stations were
very good at times.
900-1000 had the usual suspects, but weaker than normal
1000-1150 had many carriers, mostly with weak audio, except for 1134
Japan which was often good. Some were rather unstable, fading up with
decent audio for a minute or so and then disappearing
Above 1150 the band was nearly dead. 1566 was there most of the time
but just barely. 4QD1548 was there when I started listening at 1115 but
quickly disappeared and never returned. 1475 and 1575 were barely there
at sunrise. 1287 and 1242 were briefly good around sunrise.
Going from memory and notes, here's a preliminary list of what I heard,
some of which may change after listening to the SDR files
Japan - 558 567 594 666 693 729 747 774 828 864 873 954 1008 1134 1242 1287
China - 945 963 981 837
Korea - 603 657 711 864 855 873 972 1566 1053
Taiwan 738 1143
Marshall Islands 1098
Thailand 1575
Sabah 1475
Australia 612 1548, + tentatives on 792 &1116
Hawaii 550 720, maybe 650 & 760
Unid Asians (some with 2 or more audios) 585 621 639 675 756 783 792 801
846 891 909 918 936 1017 1026 1035 1044 1062 1071 1089 1107 1116 1161
Overall, an interesting but slightly weird morning.
Bruce
