Listened from 1405 to 1443UT this morning. The K-index jumped to 4
at 1418UT according to NOAA which has just started to show on their
website what we already knew....geomagnetic upset.
Interestingly, while down under activity was more noticeable closer
to 1400UT, a couple of the stronger Japanese reappeared closer to
1430UT. Quite an unusual morning, and definitely one that the
190kHz recording crowd should have put onto their hard drives,
because you had to be there in the short period that something faded
up. In hindsight, instead of methodically scanning the band, I
should have jumped on whatever was above the splatter at that
particular moment.
Down under unless noted.
Darn good audio, if briefly: 612 EE talk, fading fairly quickly after 1415UT.
Reasonable audio (though often battling w/splash) 594 (EE not JJ),
828 (EE also)
Not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise: 576 EE, 774 JJ
Burbles in the splatter: 567, 603, 621 (seemed Asia rather than DU), 747 JJ
strong carrier, no audio: 639, 675 (Asia?), 738
In general, it seemed DU before 1415, then some Asiatic recovery
afterwards, though generally things were fading pretty rapidly by then.
best wishes,
Nick
