Re: [IRCA] 2 chokes in line with Ewe antenna

Dennis,

In my experience with the chokes, I found putting one at the receiver
worked the best. Adding a second one at the antenna did nothing, or if
it did, it added more signal from strays. Did you do a comparison using
a single choke at the receiver and running the two chokes? I would be
very interested in knowing the difference in signal on your locals from
running one or two chokes. I did not add any extra grounding though. It
is too hard to place the ground 15 feet from either end as the coax runs
under the house. I installed the chokes at the imput of the R8. The two
chokes hang off the backend of the receiver side by side, so all
antennas go through them. I bought 4 ferritte pieces, but I have not
used the extra two as I found I did not need another choke at the
antenna end outside. I was happy to note that as I don't need to worry
about another box getting moisture in it.
But in my case the locals that were S7-S9 without the choke went to S1
or less with the choke, so a big difference. As with your experience,
the antennas are tighter with the patterns. Like the other morning, off
the SW EWE around 1330 UTC, I found 2PM/4KZ Australia on 531, Off the
WNW EWE it was JJ/Filipino mix. Only the stronger channels like 612 4QR
I found Australia on both antennas, but better on the SW EWE.
