Re: [IRCA] TP's for 09-18-07 or Where are my filipinos?

A quickie from the DXpedition in Masset. The 5 of us are having lunch at Haida Rose's which has broadband (the cabin has a connection speed of perhaps 1 kbps only!). TAs last night were not good....initially. Things really started to happen later around 05:00 UTC. Lot's of Spanish audio, and the highlights for us was Radio Coran on 1422 at 05:15 from Algeria, with, guess what...the Quran! Also Portugal on 1035 with very good reception at 05:30 with PP ads. No way nearly as good as the previous night when we had wall to wall TAs at armchair level. Later I was able to hear some Alaskans I needed including 1450 KLAM in Cordova. Fantastic audio from 1170, 1110 and 850...fun to hear at armchair copy. Used the new prototype array from Wellbrook which nulled the stations from the south like magic! The morning for TPs was interesting. Not fabulous, but very good or average. Poro VOA on 1170 very well heard. 1557 had something very strange. WYFR was overpowered by a strident CC speaker. 621 had Radio Rossii at 14:24. 1080 at 14:37 had a very loud jammer.....ex 1053 presumed. Could also hear a presumed Filipino singing "You are my sunshine" at 14:58. John caught the ID of Sonshine Radio on 1026 with call letters (there was a loud "YES" when he heard them!). The SDRs (8 of them) are being used with GREAT effect here. Love the system of going back and checking TOH IDs!!! 810 had Radio Rossii in very well cochannel a Chinese station. Vietnam on 549 and 675 both very well heard. Just scratching the surface...off to Tow Hill for some touristy stuff. We're having fun....5 antennae to choose from and another Wellbrook array going up this afternoon before tonight. 1440 and 1458 both had Inner Mongolia in Mongolian (presumed) at fantastic strength at 14:00 with fanfare, anthem and I'm sure, Mongolian speech. Thanks to the SDR-IQ!! Got to go........Walt. in Masset
