[IRCA] HD Hash a problem ?

On sunday PM before sunset (730 PDT) picked up skip from 810 in central Washington(a daytimer) until KGO SF started their skip a bit later but daytimer stayed on top until their shutdown.Even after that when KGO picked up and was alone and steady there was no audible hash from SF until the sky got dark and their signal was max.Does this mean KGO delayed turning on the HD or does the signal have to be almost at max for the hd to kick in? 800 and 820 were also clear until dark so I had time to listen to CKOR music until dark.--Also,before all the Dxers out there get tee'd off at the powerful HDers,don't forget that stations are not counting on the handful of us guys with the high end radios for their business.Stations depend on the masses of people well within their coverage areas with normal radios and as long as the majority can listen to a good signal then the minority who can't are just left out and who cares.The average listener in the city does not worry about signal
 quality as long as they can hear their show.  That's how I look at it.--Bill in Vic BC
